According to MacRumors , to conquer the billion-people market, Apple has decided to follow 'village custom' with a specially tuned version of Apple Intelligence specifically for Chinese users.
Apple Intelligence in China gets 'localized' thanks to Alibaba and Baidu
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working closely with Alibaba and Baidu to bring AI features to iPhones in China as early as next May. The move is seen as Apple's attempt to regain market share in this important market, where domestic smartphone brands are increasingly dominating thanks to advanced AI services.

However, to meet the Chinese government's strict content censorship regulations, Apple had to tweak Apple Intelligence in a 'localized' direction.
Specifically, Alibaba will play a key role in building an on-device system to analyze and modify Apple's AI models, integrating additional censorship and content filtering features. Meanwhile, Baidu will support features such as Visual Intelligence for the iPhone 16.
This means that the Chinese version of Apple Intelligence will differ significantly from the international version, which combines on-device features, server-based processing, and ChatGPT integration.
Another point worth noting is that these AI features will only be available on Apple devices sold in China. Users who buy iPhones abroad will not be able to access this special AI system.
Apple has now submitted documents to the Chinese government for approval. If all goes well, iPhone users in China are expected to experience the 'China domestic' version of Apple Intelligence in the next few months.
