Since childhood, I have been nurtured in the glorious revolutionary tradition of my homeland through the lullabies of my grandmother and mother about a "hard-working but heroic Eastern region, enthusiastically fighting against the enemy". At the age of eighteen or twenty, I joined the army. The school I attended was the Engineering Officer School, located in Binh Duong, formerly famous for the D war zone during the war to defend the country and today is enthusiastically building the country with many large and small industrial zones.
During my military career, I have set foot in all the Eastern provinces: when I gathered troops and practiced at the Ba Den Mountain training ground in Tay Ninh; when I participated in live ammunition firing at May Tau Mountain, National Shooting Range Region 3; when I went to build border roads and border posts in the border areas of Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc provinces; then I did mass mobilization work, lived and ate with people in economically disadvantaged areas of Binh Thuan and Dong Nai provinces; helped ethnic minorities develop culture, build the economy, detect - destroy - remove bombs and mines in the border areas of Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc provinces or joined the unit to support people in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong...
In every Eastern person, there is always a strong belief in the determination and aspiration to build the homeland and country "more decent and more beautiful".
Traveling to many places gives me a more comprehensive view of the land and people of the Southeast region, witnessing firsthand the positive changes in this land.
During the war, the Southeast was a key strategic battlefield, where the war was fierce and fierce. The war passed, leaving the Eastern region desolate, desolate and backward. Loving this land, with its heroic and indomitable tradition, many generations of people joined hands to rebuild it, turning the Eastern region into a place of peace and prosperity for many people.
I still remember my difficult childhood in Tan Lap, Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province, the red dirt roads were dusty in the dry season and wet, slippery with mud in the rainy season. The small houses made of wood, earth, and thatched roofs were nestled under the forest and rubber trees, and when it rained, they leaked in many places. Schools, medical stations, and facilities were lacking in all aspects. But now, when I return to my hometown, the roads have been paved and concreted, creating favorable conditions for people to travel. The houses are built neatly and cleanly, with many flat-roofed houses, and some houses even have motorbikes, refrigerators, and televisions. On the wild border land of the past, which used to be the base of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam, there is now a fairly prosperous border residential area with full infrastructure, and people have a fresh, warm, and peaceful life at the border.
The Eastern people are very affectionate! I remember the Tet holidays in the army, welcoming spring with my comrades in the unit, making banh chung and banh tet together, cleaning and decorating the unit and participating in folk games. The special thing about Tet in the unit is the specialties of the Eastern homeland that the soldiers' families bring to the unit to help them miss home less. There are Hoa Loc sand mangoes that meet VietGAP standards from Xuan Loc, dried fish - a delicious specialty of Tri An lake, Vung Tau fish cakes, dried squid and one-sun dried fish, Tri Hai fish sauce, Xuyen Moc sour sausage, Binh Phuoc salted cashew nuts, Binh Thuan grapes, shrimp salt and Tay Ninh dew-dried rice paper... Although in the unit, the soldiers get to enjoy the specialties of their homeland from all over the Eastern region that their relatives bring with them, warmly inviting their friends and comrades to eat together. The Eastern people are generous, friendly and sincere like that.
I am always proud of the kindness and generosity of the Eastern people, everyone treats each other with a warm heart, is willing to help others, and is always open to giving. During the Covid-19 pandemic, my teammates and I joined the front line against the epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, I witnessed and deeply felt the Eastern people's love - kindness, solidarity, sharing, helping each other in the epidemic, difficulties, and hardships.
During the war, the Eastern people were brave. During the labor to build the country, the Eastern people were diligent, hard-working, daring to think and do, had dynamic thinking, and created many good ways and new models to build their homeland.
For the Eastern region to develop, people are always the decisive factor. In each Eastern person, there is always a strong belief in the determination and aspiration to build the homeland and country "more decent, more beautiful" as Uncle Ho always wished. In the near future, with Long Thanh international airport, highways, vital traffic routes, and Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port, the key economic region of the Southeast will develop more brilliantly.
Today, the Southeast is innovating and integrating, becoming an "attractive land" for people across the country to come and build their lives, settle down and make a living; a dynamically developing land attracting foreign investment, tourists, international friends, domestic and foreign investors to cooperate. Looking at the Eastern region developing and changing every day with increasingly modern and spacious works, projects, and infrastructure, I love and am more and more proud of this dynamic, heroic, and affectionate land.
