United Airlines has temporarily banned a woman from flying after she allegedly caused pilots to divert a flight following an alcohol-related argument with flight attendants.
According to the New York Post , the woman (who has not been identified) "caused a disturbance" on a July 25 flight from Houston to Los Angeles when she "refused to follow flight attendant instructions to return to her seat," United Airlines said in a statement.
Female passenger and male flight attendant fight
The war of words caused a flight to Los Angeles to be diverted to Phoenix, Arizona.
Video of the commotion shared on social media shows the male flight attendant warning the woman to sit down or the flight would be forced to land in Arizona.
“Sit down,” the male flight attendant repeatedly shouted at the woman, who continued to insult him with various indiscriminate words. “If you’re so good, land,” the woman challenged, while still arguing with another passenger.
Other flight attendants also appeared upset, urging her to sit down or face handcuffs when the plane landed, and accusing her of being drunk before boarding.
The videos were posted to TikTok by passenger Blake Perkins, who commented that his travel plans were ruined by a "Karen" (a term for mean girl).
"Karen didn't get the wine and we had to land at another airport so she could be escorted out, delaying our arrival, all because of the wine," Perkins wrote.
United Airlines said the woman was removed from the plane by law enforcement in Phoenix. The flight continued to Los Angeles later that evening.
