The Daily Mail reports that Leicester are targeting Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as a potential replacement for Van Nistelrooy. Rohl has a close relationship with Leicester's Director of Recruitment Martyn Glover, having worked together at Southampton.
This season, Rohl has helped Sheffield Wednesday stay in the middle of the table, maintaining a safe distance from the relegation zone. The club has been underrated because of its limited financial resources and inability to attract stars. The team's current results are enough to satisfy fans.
Van Nistelrooy's future at Leicester is in doubt as the club are in danger of relegation to the Championship. His contract runs until 2027. The former Dutchman is keen to honour his current deal and is prepared to stay even if Leicester are relegated.
However, the situation became tense when Leicester had internal problems after the 0-2 loss to Man City on April 3. Midfielder Harry Winks had a conflict with Van Nistelrooy over travel at the club. Previously, defender Jannik Vestergaard also had difficulty integrating into Van Nistelrooy's environment.
Leicester's poor results (losing 14/15 recent matches) also increased the pressure on Van Nistelrooy. No longer the happy atmosphere as when the former striker first arrived, Leicester fans began to turn their backs on the Dutch coach.
Leicester are in no rush to decide on Van Nistelrooy's future. Meanwhile, the team is still closely following coach Danny Rohl. The obstacle in this deal comes from the "Foxes" having to pay a large sum to compensate Rohl's contract at Sheffield Wednesday.
