At the meeting, the two sides shared and acknowledged that agricultural development cooperation has always been considered the most prominent in the cooperative, friendly and developmental relationship between Vietnam and Cuba in general, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Cuba in particular.
Sharing the achievements of agricultural cooperation between the two countries, Deputy Minister Maury Hechavarria Bermudez highly appreciated the projects that Vietnam is supporting and helping Cuba improve its production capacity, thereby Cuba can be self-sufficient in food and foodstuffs, not only ensuring food security but also developing the economy, such as the rice planting project (currently entering phase 5) and the project of planting Vietnamese Robusta coffee on Cuban soil.
With results beyond expectations, such as coffee productivity increasing nearly 10 times, from 0.25 tons/ha to 2 tons/ha, Deputy Minister Maury Hechavarria Bermudez said Cuba will strive to replicate this successful production model to cooperate with Vietnamese businesses.
Cuba considers Vietnam the number 1 investor in Asia, so Cuba also calls for investment and cooperation in building a complete chain from livestock farming to poultry production.
Deputy Minister Maury Hechavarria Bermudez once again affirmed the traditional friendship and extensive cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the recent visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Cuba, through which the two sides identified more opportunities and possibilities for cooperation in the future.
Responding to Deputy Minister Maury Hechavarria Bermudez, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc also agreed that with Cuba's valuable agricultural land, if the technology transferred from Vietnam is well exploited, Cuba will have great potential to ensure effective food security. The construction of a farming and production chain will bring economic benefits to Cuba and it is hoped that the ongoing economic cooperation forum will help expand more cooperative relationships between the two sides.
The two sides hope that the results achieved will help the two countries continue to cooperate more closely, strengthening the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and friendship that the Governments and peoples of the two countries have worked hard to cultivate.
In order to promote the friendly relationship and economic development cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Cuba, within the framework of the visit and working session in Ho Chi Minh City, right after the meeting, the delegation of the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture attended the Trade and Investment Promotion Conference between Cuba and Vietnam, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Promotion Center.
