Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized this when information was shared about China requiring exported durian shipments to have a yellow O quality inspection certificate on the morning of February 6.
According to Mr. Tien, currently the durian growing area in Vietnam is about 169,000 hectares (more than double the planning orientation until 2030 - about 65,000-75,000 hectares), the rate of durian harvested is relatively high.
"During the export process, most of the gardens, packaging facilities, and shipments of Vietnamese durian are confirmed to be very good and of high quality.
It must also be seen that in the initial export process, there will be certain deviations in some establishments, businesses, growing areas and packaging facilities, but the ministry has directed the Plant Protection Department together with localities to seriously review and rectify to ensure that there is both a large scale, a high rate of goods and guaranteed prices," said Mr. Tien.
Regarding the inspection of O gold quality, Mr. Tien emphasized that China has set criteria from the code of the growing area, packaging facilities, and quality inspection. Therefore, we must meet the requirements of the import market.
"The inspection of O-grade gold will be reviewed and strengthened to minimize the number of substandard durian shipments, so that the rate of goods, output and value is greater," said Mr. Tien.
Regarding the inspection and examination of the use of yellow O, Mr. Tien said that the ministry has directed regularly and continuously when there are problems with shipments.
Along with that, the Plant Protection Department also affirmed that it will take serious measures to rectify and minimize violations by businesses. This is one of the important solutions for us to maintain durian exports.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , from January 10, China announced that it would apply regulations requiring shipments of Thai and Vietnamese durian to have additional O-yellow testing certificates. O-yellow testing laboratories must be approved by China.
The request was made after Chinese authorities discovered a shipment of Thai durian containing yellow O residue in late 2024.
As of January 26, there were 9 centers and laboratories testing yellow O in Vietnamese durian that were recognized by China.
These O gold testing centers are located in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Ca Mau.
After receiving the O-yellow quality test certificate, in the first days of the spring of At Ty 2025, many durian trucks exported to China were cleared normally through Lang Son border gate.
Absolutely do not use O gold for preliminary processing.
Currently, Vietnam is completing procedures to request the EU to recognize additional O gold testing laboratories to meet the O gold testing needs of businesses.
Although there are qualified O-yellow testing centers, your side still strictly controls durian shipments from Vietnam (including Thailand).
Specifically, in addition to requiring durian shipments to have additional certificates of cadmium residue and yellow O (applied from 10-1), your side also checks 100% of shipments, and only if they meet the standards can they be cleared. This increases time and costs for businesses.
To facilitate durian exports, a plant protection expert emphasized that relevant parties need to increase their responsibility to strictly comply with the requirements and standards of the importing country. At the same time, absolutely do not use yellow O to process and package durian.
