Humanity - Justice - Wisdom - Courage
In the fall, we visited the ancient village of Dong Son. The village appeared with its ancient moss-covered tiled roofs hidden on the slopes of Dragon Mountain, in the distance was the Ma River with the legendary Ham Rong Bridge.
The village has a main road in the center and many small branches turning in different directions, called alleys, along with a system of ancient communal houses, pagodas, temples, and wells, with the traditional structure of a Northern village. The most interesting thing about Dong Son ancient village is the alleys named after human dignity, namely Nhan - Nghia - Tri - Dung alleys. In the middle of the four alleys is Mieu Nhi alley leading to the temple of the Second Divine Emperor Trinh The Loi (a brocade guard of the Le Dynasty, who founded Dong Son ancient village).
Through the ups and downs of migration, the ancient village of Dong Son has always maintained the soul of the Vietnamese countryside in the market economy with the age-old standards of village love, neighborly love, helping each other in times of need. A standard based on tolerance, kindness and affection. Good stories and good examples are passed down by the village, sometimes throughout a person's life, passed down to the next generation. Things that are offensive to the eyes and ears cannot escape the villagers. That is, the whole village carries water from five wells, each alley, each hamlet has a group, huddled together, sharing the same worries about warmth and cold. That cultural life is cultivated from the traditional lifestyle of the Vietnamese people in Dong Son.
Time passes quietly, bringing with it the silent sighs of people during natural disasters and epidemics. Humanity and righteousness are clearly shown through the image of the people of Dong Son ancient village bringing money to the village cultural house to donate when they heard that the people of the northern provinces were struggling in the terrible floods. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Canh, Secretary of the Dong Son village Party Cell, the village currently has 373 households with 1,370 people, living together. Due to its geographical location along the river, it is often affected by natural disasters. In difficult times, people still voluntarily share food and clothes, which is truly a beautiful act that deserves to be appreciated.
Ancient roots
Dong Son people are always proud of their village, because of the poetic and peaceful landscapes that the land and sky have bestowed upon them. More deeply, the appreciation of their homeland is also built up by the cultural layers that have been preserved for many generations. The history of the village is also closely linked to the ups and downs of the history of Thanh Hoa.

In particular, exactly 100 years ago, Dong Son village was the first place where archaeologists discovered traces of Dong Son culture - the first period of civilization of the ancient Vietnamese, the time of the birth of the Van Lang State. Since 1954, when the North was at peace, Dong Son land has been excavated 6 times by scientists to search for historical messages. A large number of artifacts have been found, enough to speak for archaeological science, enough to name a culture marking the period of civilization of the ancient Vietnamese people that began in this land.
Under the shade of a large tree, Mr. Canh told us about the ups and downs of the old village, about things that only exist in memory. The greatest fortune was that the ancient village of Dong Son had been at peace through two wars. It was also the location of Dong Son that made the village a resistance village. Resistance on the spot, face to face with enemies from the sky, from the sea.
After the vicissitudes of time, after many wars, many changes, and burials, the land is as gentle as the land, and the grass is as green as grass. The intelligent and brave Dong Son people returned to their hard-working, diligent, and honest nature. Dong Son village's agricultural products are famous far and wide, including cassava, sweet potatoes, and yams, supplying the entire region. The deliciousness and sweetness of the village are deeply ingrained in the memories of many people.
Thanh Hoa
The remaining vestiges in Dong Son ancient village are small alleys paved with red bricks. Some ancient houses hundreds of years old along with the system of relics of Van Thanh, Duc Thanh Ca temple, Mau palace, Nhi temple, "Tuong Son bi ky" stele... in the village are not only relics, cultural sediments but also links the past and the present. Coming to Dong Son ancient village means coming to ancient houses that are hundreds of years old. Hidden in each of those houses, those historical relics not only have architectural, cultural and aesthetic values but also carry interesting and meaningful stories. Dong Son people today still harmonize between modern life and ancient values, they always remind each other to be aware of preserving and promoting the cultural heritages left by their ancestors.
