Smart irrigation systems are applied in agricultural production to increase economic value.

Agriculture is the mainstay

According to the leaders of Binh Phuoc Provincial People's Committee, the total area of perennial industrial crops in the province is currently 424,754 hectares, of which rubber and cashew trees rank first in the country, specifically: Rubber trees have an area of 244,925 hectares (accounting for 26% of the country's area); Cashew trees have an area of 151,878 hectares (accounting for 50.6% of the country's area); coffee trees have an area of 13,963 hectares (accounting for 1.97% of the country's area) and pepper trees have an area of 13,607 hectares (accounting for 10.7% of the country's area).

With the strength of agricultural land accounting for over 64% of the province's area, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production accounting for 25% of the economic structure, Binh Phuoc is a province with advantages in agricultural development. In the field of cultivation alone, the province has developed models of growing melons, hydroponic vegetables... in Dong Xoai city, Hon Quan and Phu Rieng districts. The above results are due to the priority and facilitation of building and establishing enterprises with the function of leading, linking and acting as a focal point to build key, standard agricultural product brands.

In addition, the province also built many areas and crops cultivated according to VietGap and GlobalGap standards, many export products meet the criteria of the most demanding markets, promising to bring a new look and new value to agriculture.

Accordingly, for industrial crops with lower efficiency than other crops, it is necessary to promote restructuring towards reducing the area. For rubber trees, the current revenue from 1 hectare of rubber is about 80-100 million VND/ha, while durian trees have a revenue of 560-600 million VND/ha, grapefruit trees 300-450 million VND/ha, and high-tech clean vegetables are about 700 million VND/ha.

Therefore, it is necessary to convert part of the rubber area, especially old rubber, to industrial development, high-tech agriculture, and fruit trees. For cashew trees, which were previously a poverty reduction tree, it is possible to maintain development in the direction of improving productivity, quality, and deep processing of products for export, without expanding the cashew growing area.

For fruit trees, focus on expanding the area and increasing productivity of promising trees such as durian, mango, jackfruit, avocado and citrus trees; increase the application of technical advances in production, issue certificates of growing area codes and packing facility codes to serve export, especially durian.

Bringing technology into production

In addition to changing people's awareness of how to cultivate agricultural land effectively, in recent years, the policy of Binh Phuoc province's leaders has been very interested in and focused on models of applying science and technology to agricultural production to increase economic value. A typical example is the family of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, residing in Duc Lieu commune, Bu Dang district, with 2 hectares of durian trees interspersed with green grapefruit, which is very economically effective.

According to Mr. Thang, in the past, his family had 5 hectares of cashew land, but due to unstable prices, he gradually converted about 2 hectares to grow durian and added some fruit trees. The most popular of these is the green grapefruit tree. After more than 5 years of planting and caring for it according to the techniques instructed by agricultural engineers, his durian garden is now bearing fruit and has an average yield of 100kg/tree. "My family's durian has just started to harvest, but it has achieved high economic efficiency. The grapefruit tree alone has helped me cover other expenses. Currently, on average, I earn nearly 80 million VND per hectare after deducting expenses," Mr. Thang happily shared.

According to Mr. Thang, in order to have a stable source of income, in addition to the efforts to learn from previous gardeners, the application of advanced scientific measures such as using smart irrigation systems, economical spraying... has helped the family reduce a lot of costs while bringing high efficiency. Above, is also one of many households in Binh Phuoc province with suitable methods to help increase economic value from agricultural production. In particular, the early application of modern techniques from high technology has helped improve and promote the value of agricultural land.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc province, since applying high technology to agricultural production, the value of high-tech agricultural production has increased 40-50 times compared to traditional agricultural production models. At the same time, many businesses with brands, potentials and strengths have been formed and attracted, striving to have many famous and prestigious brands in the province.

Accordingly, the province's orientation is to focus on transforming from traditional agriculture to high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture to create products that meet VietGAP standards and some other international standards. Promote the application of science and technology in production; promote the restructuring of crops and livestock, create raw material areas for processing and export to develop the economy more stably and sustainably.
