(Baoquangngai.vn) - That was the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien at the meeting of the Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The meeting was held on the afternoon of February 18. Attending the meeting were representatives of relevant departments, branches and localities.

According to the report, the total number of fishing vessels registered in the province to date is 5,194, an increase of 22.44% over the same period in 2024. The total number of fishing vessels licensed to exploit aquatic products under the new quota to date is 4,256, reaching a rate of 81.94%. Since the beginning of the year, the total number of fishing vessels registered at the Quang Ngai Fishing Vessel Inspection Center is 821. The rate of marking fishing vessels has basically reached 100% of the registered fishing vessels.

The Provincial People's Committee has announced a list of 1,627 fishing vessels that have been newly built, converted, purchased, or donated and are currently operating but do not have sufficient documents to be registered according to Circular No. 06/2024/TT-BNNPTNT, dated May 6, 2024 of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

As of February 17, 2025, 1,128 vessels were granted fishing vessel registration certificates, 942 vessels were granted fishing licenses and updated in the national fisheries data system. There are currently 499 vessels, of which 129 are unregistered and 370 are not eligible for registration.

The whole province has 3,089 fishing boats with a length of 15m or more that are required to install a voyage monitoring device (VMS). To date, 2,990 boats have installed VMS, reaching a rate of 99%.

Through the local fishing vessel monitoring system and the Department of Fisheries for fishing vessels from 15m to under 24m and fishing vessels from 24m and above, 103 fishing vessels were detected that went beyond the map on the software of the Fishing Vessel Monitoring System and 961 fishing vessels lost connection at sea for 10 days. The agencies handled 22 fishing vessels that went beyond the permitted boundary at sea, handled 736 cases, and punished 117 cases...

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien emphasized that localities must focus on thoroughly handling cases of "3 no" fishing boats in February 2025 according to the direction of the Prime Minister.

Strictly handle vessels that violate the law, especially trawlers and vessels that lose connection to VMS equipment. The management board of fishing ports needs to strictly manage fishing vessels; monitor aquatic product output at the port, focusing on monitoring aquatic product output unloaded through the port to ensure reliability for traceability.

He suggested that media agencies in the province do better in propaganda work, advising people not to illegally exploit foreign waters.
