Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee, said that the locality currently has nearly 30,000 accommodation rooms and 800 tourism service establishments serving diverse segments, about 70% of which are 4-star or higher. However, since the beginning of 2023, Phu Quoc tourism has encountered difficulties, with a significant decrease in the number of visitors. Currently, flights and ships to Phu Quoc are empty, with a decrease of about 40% compared to the same period last year. Local investors and businesses are facing difficulties; the locality has not found a fundamental solution.

Mr. Hung pledged that the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City is ready to rectify sky-high service prices while the quality is not commensurate. At the same time, the social environment will also be guaranteed to be safe, civilized, and polite so that tourists can feel secure when coming to Phu Quoc.

Mr. Lam Minh Thanh, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee, suggested that Phu Quoc City authorities, tourism and service professional associations, and airlines sit down to discuss ways to reduce airfares to increase attraction to tourists.

According to estimates, the average ticket price from Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City… to Phu Quoc is about 1.9 million VND/person/trip. This price is higher than the price to Thailand, Singapore… so it is very unreasonable.

Mr. Tran Dat Duy (Vietnamese Australian) - an expert on tourism in the Mekong Delta said that, besides reducing airfares, the Phu Quoc City government needs to take measures to clear the resorts that occupy the beach, returning space to the people and tourists like Nha Trang and Phan Thiet.
