With the mindset of global citizens, many young people are constantly reaching out to new horizons, accumulating practical values to serve the community.
Vu Hai Truong (31 years old; from Bao Loc city, Lam Dong province) is studying the 3rd master's program in Business Administration at Hong Kong University (HKU) - one of the top universities in Asia.
Desire for self-improvement
Previously, Truong has a master's degree in public policy in leadership and management from the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management and a major in Data Science from Liverpool John Moores University (UK).
This 9X guy conquered his brilliant academic milestones thanks to scholarships. Born into a farming family, Truong was raised on coffee beans. His going to school not only came from his desire to improve himself but also as a way to fulfill his parents' wishes.
With 10 years of experience working in educational and non-governmental organizations, Truong chose a diverse field at the graduate level instead of studying higher education. His majors are complementary and interconnected. He wants to leverage the power of the private sector in the way social organizations operate, and at the same time bridge these blocks so that each side can do better in what they pursue.
Truong is also a beloved Podcast host. The Thought Show on Vietsuccess channel contains many of his reflections. What Truong asks and the guests invite him to do, they all bring valuable knowledge and strong inspiration.
The school compared studying abroad to being born a second time, becoming a child again. He learned Chinese and practiced hard. While others worried that the language gap would cause stress and discouragement, he used it as motivation to run faster.
"Running faster but still behind others makes me not allow myself to be arrogant and always have a gap to fill every day" - Truong said and said his challenge is to understand the evolution in emotions and changes happening to him without being affected by the things around him.
"Many talents gather here so I need to put in 200% effort. Starting from a lower position, but I am here - where many people need a lot of support to get to, that is something to be proud of" - Truong confided.
In the near future, Truong will attend the graduation ceremony of the Equity Initiative program on health equity at Oxford University (UK), in parallel with studying at HKU. In the future, Truong aims to bring more international resources to Vietnam through meaningful community projects, which are his strengths.

Passion for challenges
In his childhood dreams, Dr. Trinh Quang Vinh (HCMC) never thought he could teach and gain rich experiences all over the world. But at the age of 37, Vinh has been to more than 30 countries and territories, teaching nearly 40 subjects.
Dr. Trinh Quang Vinh's journey to master knowledge is a long series of persistent efforts and a vivid and convincing proof of the proverb "where there's a will, there's a way". Through that, it helps many people, especially those in disadvantaged circumstances, strengthen their self-confidence and determine to change their fate for the better.
Difficult family circumstances have never been a barrier. Quang Vinh devoted all his heart to realizing his life's dream. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Natural Sciences, Vinh continued to study for a master's degree in nuclear, atomic and high-energy physics, also at the same school. Vinh is also an example of a positive attitude and proactively seizing opportunities, ready to step out of his comfort zone, and expand his limits.
In each new area, new land, there are more or less risks but they do not make Vinh waver, on the contrary, they urge him to move forward. His flexible adaptation is clearly shown when Vinh switched to teaching and researching education. In 2014, Vinh studied for a doctorate at National Chi Nan University, Taiwan (China), with a full scholarship.
In addition to being fluent in English and Chinese (common), Vinh can also use languages such as: Japanese, Korean, Thai, Myanmar, Lao and Cantonese. What is particularly interesting is that Vinh mainly studies by himself. To study effectively, Vinh searches for suitable methods based on the characteristics of pronunciation, writing system, structure and grammar of each language. On that basis, Vinh designs a reasonable learning path, practicing listening and speaking skills or improving vocabulary and grammar first.
Vinh's doctoral thesis in education policy and administration was written in four languages (Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, English) and scored 93/100 points, and this was the first time at Chi Nan National University that a thesis was written in four languages. After completing his doctoral training program and having the opportunity to stay at the university to do research, Vinh chose to return home and actively participate in developing training programs for a number of universities.
The boy from the poor working class neighborhood, who had to work and study since his school days, has now set foot on five continents through scientific conferences, research trips and social work. Vinh has volunteered to teach children in Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, etc.
Having experience studying and working in an international environment, Quang Vinh realized that the key for young people to integrate and succeed is understanding the language and culture of the host country and the spirit of daring to think and dare to do.
Wherever he goes, Quang Vinh carefully observes and thoroughly understands the characteristics of the people, economy, society, etc. of that place to filter, analyze, evaluate, and systematize knowledge. Thanks to that, Quang Vinh has more and more unique sources of practical knowledge to impart to learners, helping the next generation to have a comprehensive and profound background.
According to Quang Vinh, the trend of interdisciplinary science has developed very well in the world, to solve social problems requires the coordination of many sectors but in our country it is still too new. It is this unexpected new challenge that attracts him. Currently, he is able to teach 4 fields: Liberal and interdisciplinary education; Social sciences and humanities; Languages (Chinese, Thai, Myanmar, Vietnamese); Physics and nuclear medicine.
Vinh is also a prestigious name often invited to consult and advise on training programs for many universities. Recently, he accepted a job at the University of Natural Sciences - VNU-HCM, being selected as an "Outstanding Young Scientist" of the VNU350 project. From here, Vinh will continue research projects such as liberal and interdisciplinary education; developing interdisciplinary teaching content (innovation and creativity in higher education in Vietnam): active teaching and learning methods, assessment and measurement tools in education, equity in education, quality education, etc.
The guiding principle that Vinh aims for is to persistently develop himself in the spirit of lifelong learning. Vinh said that he cultivates passion and capacity, not only so that he can go further, but also so that he has the strength to bring useful values to his students, colleagues, and more broadly, to the domestic education sector.
Studying is the only way that has helped Trinh Quang Vinh to travel here and there, making practical contributions to serving society. (Photo provided by the character)
"Vietnam is the country with the largest number of international students in Southeast Asia. Immersing yourself in a multicultural environment, overcoming language and lifestyle barriers... helps young people become brave and confident in contributing to the development of their homeland."
