At the ceremony, representatives of the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center presented a report on the implementation of the project to restore the Japanese Covered Bridge relic.

Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc - Director of Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center said that, first of all, thanks to the good preparation of the project with a meticulous and thorough implementation process along with a huge amount of work and important results achieved in many fields including: scientific research; field survey, architectural documentation; seminars, expert consultation; establishing a system of viewpoints, principles and directional solutions; developing design plans; giving opinions, agreeing and approving investment documents... has created a very important premise for the project to be implemented smoothly with specific tasks, methods and goals.

"The actual results prove that most of the investment scale and work items have been implemented and basically completed according to the approved design. Except for some necessary adjustments arising from the results of field surveys, archaeology, expert consultation and approval by competent authorities such as: Adjusting to reduce the thickness of the reinforced concrete layer of the abutment and bridge piers because the excavation and separation of soil and rock has reached the bottom of the foundation, and cannot be dug deeper; Supplementing and restoring wooden beams connecting from the pagoda to the bridge according to the architectural traces discovered; Adjusting the volume of replacement, reinforcement, and utilization of parts, components, etc. in accordance with the results of actual inspection and assessment after dismantling. This adjustment is always necessary in the restoration of relics and has been anticipated in the approved documents" - Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc said and said that although it may not be as complete as expected, the results achieved are the efforts, determination, initiative and creativity of the team of people. directly implement the project.

The project to restore the Chua Cau relic has a total investment of 20.2 billion VND, of which the construction and installation value of the winning bidder is 13.3 billion VND from 50% of the Quang Nam provincial budget and 50% of the Hoi An city budget. The project started on December 28, 2022.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Phan Thai Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that the restoration process was carried out very carefully by the People's Committee of Hoi An City in terms of science, history, culture and legal processes and procedures.

"It is normal to have many different opinions about the restoration results of the Japanese Covered Bridge, which shows that many people love the Japanese Covered Bridge and Hoi An. The cultural sector, the Hoi An city government, and the provincial leaders are always open-minded, listening, accepting, and consulting to improve the restoration of relics in particular and the conservation and promotion of the values ​​of relics in Hoi An as well as in the province. We hope to continue to receive constructive comments and suggestions so that the cultural sector can continue to research, consult, and apply them in practice," said Mr. Phan Thai Binh.

Representatives of Quang Nam province's leaders also hope that after being restored, the Japanese Covered Bridge will continue to be an attractive destination, bringing many cultural and economic values ​​to Hoi An. This is also an opportunity for the locality to promote the image of a dynamic Hoi An, rich in tradition and always looking towards the future; especially an opportunity to summarize practical experiences on restoration processes, techniques and solutions to serve as a reference for upcoming important relic restoration projects not only in the province but also for heritages at home and abroad.
