(CLO) Kon Ko Tu fairy tale village is nestled on the banks of the peaceful and poetic Dak Bla River in Dak Ro Wa Commune, Kon Tum City (Kon Tum). Taking advantage of this, the Ba Na people in the village have opened homestays, organized gong performances, brocade weaving, built stilt houses... attracting tourists to visit.
Dak Bla River is a rare river in Vietnam that flows in an East-West direction, instead of from West to East like most other rivers. This has given Dak Bla the nickname of the reverse-flowing river, and the river has become a special symbol of Kon Tum.
Nestled along the Dak Bla River is the ancient village of Kon Ko Tu. In the language of the Ba Na people, Kon Ko Tu means primitive. It means that this village was formed in the primitive, ancient times. Therefore, Kon Ko Tu village has an ancient beauty, tinged with the colors of time.
The village is mostly inhabited by indigenous Ba Na people with 138 households and nearly 800 people. This is also a village that still retains intact the typical cultural features of the Central Highlands. Many traditional stilt houses are built around the communal house in the ancient arched village architecture.
More specifically, Kon Ko Tu village has an ideal location, standing next to the mountain and the river, the air is very fresh. Not only that, the ancient village on the outskirts of the city also owns earthen houses that are over a hundred years old. In addition, visitors will also be immersed in stories about the history of the village, listening to many types of instruments made from bamboo, rattan, etc.
Exploiting their existing strengths, the Ba Na community in Kon Ko Tu village has long exploited tourism. They open homestays, organize gong performances, weave brocade, and build stilt houses for tourists to visit...
Mr. A Dun, Head of Kon Ko Tu village, shared: “The village often organizes many cultural activities to promote and preserve the beauty that has existed for generations. The villagers are always enthusiastic about preserving the land, preserving the village and preserving the culture in the face of the challenge of time. While preserving, the local people still constantly learn, together with the young generation, promoting the ancient values of the village to domestic and foreign tourists. Along with preserving the inherent beauty of the village, instead of doing agriculture as before, the villagers now know how to open homestays to serve tourists, bringing economic value to the local people here.”
In addition to opening homestays, villagers also weave and sell brocade to tourists. Ms. Y Xanh (50 years old, Kon Ko Tu village) is a famous artisan of the village.
“There are about 20 people in the village who regularly weave brocade to sell to tourists and villagers. To preserve and develop, the village also established a brocade weaving group to fulfill orders and pass on the craft to the next generation. Some of the products that the villagers often make include shirts, skirts, baby carriers, or many handbags, wallets, etc. Through this, the villagers both preserve and promote the traditional brocade weaving craft of the nation and create income for each family,” Ms. Y Xanh shared.
If his wife, Mrs. Y Muk, is a famous weaver in the village, Mr. A Hung is not far behind because of his talent in weaving. Mr. Hung and his wife often help villagers and students make handicrafts for festivals and activities...
“The village has changed, many houses have been built, but people still live by weaving and knitting. I have 8 children, each of whom has a different job to develop the economy. But on weekends, they come back to my wife and I to ask them to teach them how to weave and weave brocade. We are happy that the young generation is still passionate about handicrafts and preserving this ancient village.
In addition to preserving traditional crafts, Kon Ko Tu ancient village has been planned to become a tourist destination connected through homestay models. Therefore, people often cook traditional dishes and brew wine to serve visitors," said Mr. Hung.
Mr. Le Van Thien - Chairman of Dak Ro Wa Commune People's Committee said: "Possessing a wild and simple beauty by the gentle and poetic Dak Bla River, Kon Ko Tu village is a precious gift bestowed by nature. Thanks to the harmonious combination of landscape and culture, this place has become an ideal destination for tourists who want to explore the unique features of traditional life and cuisine. In the coming time, the government and villagers will join hands to recreate a green, clean and beautiful landscape, turning the village into an even more attractive destination.
In addition, the commune will introduce many unique experiential tourism models, combining the preservation of precious cultural values that have been preserved through many generations. The promotion of Kon Ko Tu village will be promoted on mass media and social networking sites, to bring the image of this ancient village to many friends at home and abroad.
According to Mr. Thien, to support the community in developing tourism, Dak Ro Wa commune regularly organizes field trips and skills training for homestay households, helping them learn from successful tourism models in other localities.
