The festival aims to pay tribute to great scholars, contribute to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of studiousness, respect for teachers, and enriching the cultural identity of the nation.
Mao Dien Temple of Literature is the second largest relic in the Vietnamese Temple of Literature system, the successor and continuation of the ancient Hai Duong Temple of Literature. The relic was built in the 15th century in Vinh Lai commune, Duong An district and by the time of Quang Trung in the late 18th century, it was moved to Mao Dien commune, merged with schools and examination schools and became the place to train thousands of bachelors and doctors of Confucianism, ranking first in the country.
Mao Dien Temple of Literature worships Confucius - the founder of Confucianism and also worships 8 typical great scholars: Teacher Chu Van An - the teacher of all generations; Two-country top scholar Mac Dinh Chi; Royal envoy Pham Su Manh; Great physician Zen master Tue Tinh; National hero, world cultural celebrity Nguyen Trai; Vietnamese math god, Doctor Vu Huu; Trinh Quoc Cong, top scholar Nguyen Binh Khiem; Doctor Nguyen Thi Due, the first female doctor of Vietnam (Mac dynasty).

Through the ups and downs of history, Mao Dien Temple of Literature has been preserved and promoted its values, becoming a place to honor the teachings, respect the wisdom, intelligence, and talents of the ancient Eastern region. The relic was ranked as a special national relic in 2017, a symbol of the Eastern region's culture. This is also the place to organize many activities to encourage learning such as meetings, honoring the new-era Eastern doctors, incense offering activities, honoring excellent students and educational science seminars. Mao Dien Temple of Literature's traditional festival is held on the 17th and 18th of the second lunar month every year, attracting many visitors from all over the country, local people and representatives of the descendants of doctors who are famous at the Temple of Literature to participate.
After the incense offering ceremony, there was the ceremony of offering letters to the Saints with the participation of the letter offering team of Mau Tai village, Mao Dien commune, Cam Giang district, offering the four words "Respecting teachers and valuing education". The ceremony expressed gratitude to the ancestors, valued learning, and promoted the tradition of studiousness of the Vietnamese people and the ancient land of Dong, Hai Duong today.
This year's festival, in addition to traditional rituals, calligraphy performances and exchanges, golden bell competitions to learn about the history of relics and famous people worshiped at the Temple of Literature, calligraphy competitions, Quan Ho singing on boats, folk games... also has a new feature: displaying and introducing 20 OCOP products of Cam Giang district.
