In the first 10 months of the year, the number of domestic tourists reached more than 98.7 million, higher than the 85 million visitors of the whole year of 2019.
Speaking at the "Seminar on Promoting Tourism Communication" held on November 7 in Hanoi, Chairman of the Tourism Association Vu The Binh said that Vietnam's tourism is recovering after Covid-19. The number of domestic tourists in the first 10 months of the year reached 98.7 million, an increase of nearly 10% over the same period and higher than the whole of 2019 with 85 million, reaching 97% of the target set at the beginning of the year of welcoming 102 million.

However, Flamingo Redtours General Director Nguyen Cong Hoan said that Vietnamese tourists travel domestically more than before the pandemic, but the travel company's tourism revenue is not as expected. Vietnam's economy has not really recovered. 2023 is the year to "feel" the economic difficulties, leading to a decrease in spending on tourism. Domestic tourists' travel demand is still there, but it will be rebalanced. Instead of going far, tourists will go near, instead of going for a long time, they will switch to shorter trips. If in the past, tourists prioritized luxury trips, this year tourists prioritize more promotions and discounts. Thanks to the development of technology, tourists tend to travel independently or buy part of the tour service more than buying a whole package.
Also in the first 10 months of the year, Vietnam welcomed nearly 10 million international visitors, exceeding the target of 8 million set at the beginning of the year. Mr. Hoan commented that to welcome 18 million international visitors as before the pandemic or higher, Vietnam "still has many problems to solve". According to Mr. Pham Ha, CEO of Lux Group and expert in the field of luxury tourism, one of the urgent issues now to attract more tourists is that Vietnam needs to identify its strengths and then develop a strategy to promote and advertise tourism.
Mr. Ha commented that Vietnam has not yet clearly positioned its brand. Vietnamese people like to talk and listen, not read much, so it is necessary to promote through multimedia to attract domestic customers. Vietnam's promotion abroad in foreign languages is still "poor", the content is general, so it has not attracted foreign customers.
