Karrar UAV on display in Tehran on December 10
IRNA news agency reported on December 10 that Iran has just strengthened its air defense capabilities with Karrar unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with air-to-air missiles.
"Dozens of Karrar drones equipped with air-to-air missiles have been added for air defense in all border areas of the country," the report said.
The UAVs, which have a range of up to 1,000 km, were displayed on the morning of December 10 in a ceremony broadcast live from a military academy in Tehran.
Iran's enemies will now have to rethink their strategies as its air force has become more powerful, according to Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Abdolrahim Mousavi.

The first version of the Karrar UAV was unveiled in 2010. Now, it is equipped with the Majid heat-seeking missile, which has a range of about 8 km and is entirely domestically produced. General Mousavi said the missile was successfully tested during a military exercise in October.
According to AFP, Iran's weapons development has caused concern in many countries such as the US and Israel. Israel accuses Iran of supplying UAVs to its allies in the Middle East, notably Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi forces in Yemen.
Iran also supports Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which is currently in conflict with Israel. Western countries and Ukraine accuse Iran of supplying UAVs to Russia for use in its campaign in Ukraine, a claim Iran denies.
Many Western countries have imposed sanctions on Iran over alleged arms sales. Iran began producing UAVs in the 1980s during its eight-year war with Iraq.
