Lai Vung district exploits and effectively develops local tourism

DTO - Lai Vung district is endowed by nature with many advantages for agricultural development and has many resources and potential for tourism development. Currently, the district has 18 community tourism spots recognized by the province, including: 16 fruit garden sightseeing spots and 2 handicraft production facilities. The tourism infrastructure in the area basically meets the needs of sightseeing, experience, accommodation... of domestic and foreign tourists. Continuing to promote the potential for community tourism development, sectors, units and localities in Lai Vung district have promoted and mobilized the connection of tourist spots in the district to form a Garden Club for tourism. With the support from specialized departments of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the attention of local leaders and the enthusiasm of gardeners doing tourism, "Lai Vung District Gardener Tourism Club" was launched on June 19, 2024, aiming to connect and promote the potential strengths of each tourist attraction of the district.

“Lai Vung District Gardeners’ Tourism Club” has 19 members, of which the Executive Board consists of 4 members (1 chairman, 2 vice chairmen and 1 secretary) who organize activities once a month and living expenses are voluntarily contributed by members. “Lai Vung District Gardeners’ Tourism Club” operates with the motto: supporting and sharing useful information in tourism activities, agricultural production, other areas of social life and is a playground for hard-working, dynamic, creative farmers who are passionate about agricultural tourism, who know how to link personal ambitions with the common interests of the community and society.

The establishment of the “Lai Vung District Garden House Tourism Club” is considered a “common home” for sightseeing spots, favorites and desires to develop community tourism. According to the Department of Culture and Information of Lai Vung District, although it was only established for a short time, the “Lai Vung District Garden House Tourism Club” has had many activities to support the development of community tourism such as: consulting on how to take care of red tangerine trees (the main tree of Lai Vung community tourism); decoration; organizing learning experiences from community tourism models in some districts and cities in the province, contributing to increasing the economic value of gardens and people's income.

According to some members of the “Lai Vung District Gardeners’ Tourism Club”, although newly established, it has met the legitimate needs and aspirations of the people, especially the community tourism attractions, those who are passionate about tourism agree to support and initially bring positive results. In particular, members of the “Lai Vung District Gardeners’ Tourism Club” voluntarily connect and share the benefits of each member and the community. Thereby, contributing to enhancing responsibility, determination, solidarity, creativity in thinking, in each product with the desire to develop tourism in a sustainable direction, contributing to promoting and building the image of the locality.

In addition, "Lai Vung District Gardeners' Tourism Club" is a place to promote and enhance the image and local tourism; raise awareness of the benefits of tourism development; awareness of preserving and protecting natural resources, ecological environment; cultural and historical factors in the district... Thereby, contributing to changing awareness from individual to collective business, sustainable cooperation, gradually improving the quality of agricultural tourism products and tourism activities in Lai Vung district in particular and Dong Thap province in general.

Along with exploiting community tourism (mainly fruit orchards), Lai Vung district focuses on exploiting tourism potential associated with historical and cultural values, especially focusing on restoring and developing traditional craft villages and occupations through rural agricultural experience tourism. A typical example is the boat building craft in Long Hau commune (Lai Vung district) which has existed for hundreds of years. This craft village has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Continuing to promote the valuable values ​​of craft villages, Lai Vung district has implemented many solutions for boat building craft villages: supporting investment in production, promoting and distributing products of production establishments in the craft villages; encouraging production establishments to apply solutions and models to improve production technology, processes, raw materials and product designs to meet market demand. Since then, a number of households and handicraft establishments have appeared to produce miniature boats and canoes as gifts for visitors to the craft village and according to orders from domestic and foreign customers. The number of tourists to Lai Vung district each year is about 320,000, including hundreds of international visitors, and tourism revenue is always higher year after year.
