(HNMO) - On the evening of May 21, at the national relic of Dong Co Temple, the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tay Ho District (Hanoi) solemnly held the 995th Anniversary of the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath (1028-2023) and the Ceremony to announce the decision to inscribe the Loyalty Oath into the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dong Co Temple (Thuy Khue Street, Buoi Ward, Tay Ho District) was built in 1028, worshiping the Bronze Drum God, the god who helped King Ly Thai Tong keep the country peaceful and quell the rebellion of the three kings. The temple is where the Loyalty and Filial Piety Oath originated - a unique festival with many profound humanistic values, as well as clearly demonstrating the Vietnamese character and traditions.

Accordingly, the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath is one of the two largest and most important festivals of Thang Long Citadel under the Ly Dynasty, deeply expressing the spirit of loyalty, filial piety and the desire for national peace and prosperity. The unique feature of the Dong Co Temple Oath also lies in the harmony and combination of royal and folk rituals, borrowing the power of the gods to create the complete sublimation of the community in the aspiration for social stability and national development.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong presented the decision to register the Loyalty Oath of Dong Co Temple as a national intangible cultural heritage to Tay Ho district.

Through many dynasties in history, from Ly, Tran, Le, to the present Ho Chi Minh era, the Oath Festival has been maintained, continued and preserved intact in its value. Every year on the 4th day of the 4th lunar month, the people in the area enthusiastically hold the festival, contributing to increasing the solidarity of the community, nurturing and enriching the spiritual and cultural life of the people of Dong Xa village in particular, and Tay Ho district in general. The unique values ​​of the Dong Co Temple Festival are still maintained, practiced, passed down and strongly spread by the community in the spiritual and cultural life here.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Ho District Nguyen Dinh Khuyen affirmed: The 995th anniversary of the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath and the Ceremony to announce the decision to list the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage is an occasion to honor the heritage with lasting value and strong vitality; to acknowledge and commend the efforts of the Party Committee, the authorities of Buoi Ward, relevant departments, agencies of the district and the community in preserving, conserving and promoting the value of the historical - cultural relic of Dong Co Temple and the Loyalty Oath; at the same time, to promote the responsibility of preserving and promoting the heritage to serve the socio-economic development of the district in the following years.

“In order to locate the value, protect and promote the value of this cultural heritage in a proportionate manner, in recent times, with the accompaniment and support of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, the guidance and assistance of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism), experts and scientists, Tay Ho district has completed the preparation of a scientific dossier to propose the registration of the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath into the list of national intangible cultural heritage; implemented many meaningful activities such as: Organizing incense offerings and exchanging experiences at Dong Co Temple, Dan Ne village, Yen Tho commune, Yen Dinh district, Thanh Hoa province; a seminar on Protecting and promoting the value of the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath intangible cultural heritage; organizing extracurricular programs to educate students on historical and cultural traditions; Organizing cultural and artistic exchange activities, traditional sports, etc., contributes significantly to spreading the value of heritage, so that heritage continues to shine in the flow of the thousand-year-old fine cultural traditions of the Vietnamese people," Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khuyen emphasized.

The 995th anniversary of the Dong Co Temple Loyalty Oath (1028-2023) and the announcement ceremony of the decision to inscribe the Loyalty Oath into the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage took place with incense offering rituals, opening speeches, and announcement of the decision to inscribe the Loyalty Oath into the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Art program to celebrate the anniversary.

The festival part is a special art program with an epic dance drama about the legend of Dong Co Temple and the event of King Ly Thai Tong opening the Loyalty Oath after the Tam Vuong Rebellion. The art program is a delicate combination of music, dance, lighting effects and folk art forms: Xam singing, Cheo singing, singing, drum dancing, dragon procession... with the participation of many People's Artists, Meritorious Artists and the art troupe of the Vietnam Tuong Theater, helping viewers clearly feel the sacredness and rich identity of Thang Long - Hanoi of the Dong Co Temple Festival.

The festival will last until May 22, with many traditional cultural, artistic and sports activities. On May 22, the ceremony to reenact the Loyalty Oath will take place at Dong Co Temple.
