Workshop to support economic empowerment of poor and ethnic minority women

This morning, July 31, in Dong Ha City, the Women's Union of Quang Tri Province organized a workshop to assess the current situation and develop solutions to implement the task of "Supporting economic empowerment for poor women and ethnic minority women".

In the period of 2021-2023, women's unions at all levels in the province proactively and actively coordinated to implement poverty reduction policies quite synchronously and effectively. Many units had creative and flexible ways of working, suitable to the needs and aspirations of women.

Responding to the special emulation campaign "Building works for poor women, for a clean and green environment", all levels of the association deployed 260 meaningful and practical works for poor women and ethnic minority women with a total value of nearly 2 billion VND.

Vocational training and job creation for women have received attention. The province has organized more than 788 vocational training classes and technical training courses on free-range chicken farming, planting and caring for nem trees, planting medicinal plants, weaving... for 20,618 members and women; helping and sponsoring 75% of poor households with women, of which 734 households have escaped poverty.

Continuing to effectively implement the model of "Breeding Bank", the association at all levels has donated 6,560 breeding animals of various types; supported 72 women's economic models with a total value of over 1.4 billion VND. Mobilized resources to organize many meaningful and practical activities of the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" with a total implementation cost of nearly 4.5 billion VND.

Supported the construction of 133 sustainable poverty reduction models. Surveyed and proposed 28 projects to support industrial promotion, of which 6 projects on industrial sewing machinery and equipment and confectionery production were approved with a budget of 325 million VND.

Support technology application for livelihood groups, organize training courses on technology application for livelihood groups; build brands, labels and quality management; support technical advice on banana preservation, online sales skills and financial management for members.

At the workshop, delegates shared, discussed and disseminated the following contents: support for brand building, product standards; trade promotion; introduction and support for connection with logistics service solutions and electronic payment; the necessity of quality management in product processing and manufacturing; the effectiveness of applying science and technology in product development; some basic policies in sustainable poverty reduction, building poverty reduction models; activities to support livelihoods for poor women; mobilizing social resources to implement poverty reduction; experience in building sustainable poverty reduction models.
