In 2024, with many innovative solutions, trade promotion activities have achieved many positive results, expanding domestic and export markets.


Many new trade promotion activities are organized for the first time.

On the afternoon of December 30, the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) held a Conference to review the work in 2024 and set out the tasks for 2025. This is an opportunity for the Agency to comprehensively evaluate the results achieved during the year, especially the effective support for businesses in connecting, exploiting, expanding export markets and developing the domestic market.

Speaking at the conference, Director of the Trade Promotion Agency Vu Ba Phu said that in 2024, in the context of the world economy facing many challenges and unpredictable developments, the Vietnamese economy continues to be a bright spot in the global economic picture. Under the strong direction of the Minister of Industry and Trade, the attention of the Ministry's leaders, the active coordination of relevant units and the system of trade promotion organizations from central to local levels, with strong innovations, trade promotion activities have made significant contributions to the overall development of the entire industry and trade sector.

In particular, according to the Director, over the past year, the close coordination between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries and branches such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism... has brought about positive mutual impacts among the promotion fields.

"The conference is also an opportunity for us to exchange information, find good practices, and further improve the effectiveness of trade promotion activities. In particular, through the opinions of associations and industries on the contents of suggestions such as policy mechanisms, organizational forms of agencies and units on trade promotion activities, and forms of support related to trade promotion activities, the Department will continue to have proposals with the goal of accompanying units to further promote the effectiveness of trade promotion activities in the coming time" - said the Director of the Department of Trade Promotion.

At the conference, according to the report of the Trade Promotion Agency, in the past year, trade promotion activities have achieved many outstanding results. Among them, it is possible to mention the activities of decentralization, delegation of authority, and simplification of administrative procedures in the field of trade promotion to facilitate organizations and enterprises that have been implemented synchronously and effectively.

"Accordingly, Decree No. 128/2024/ND-CP has simplified 10 administrative procedures on promotional activities and trade fair and exhibition activities and is expected to reduce more than 100,000 administrative procedure records on promotions each year and cut over 90% of administrative procedure compliance costs for businesses," the report stated.

In addition, the highlight is that in 2024, many new trade promotion activities were implemented for the first time, effectively supporting businesses to increase exports in Vietnam's strong industries. At the same time, it contributed to diversifying trade promotion channels to support businesses to promote, introduce products, and connect with foreign partners and businesses such as: The first Vietnam International Textile and Garment Technology Exhibition - VIATT 2024, Vietnam Fruit Festival in China, The 3rd Global E-commerce Fair in China, Exhibition of OCOP Export Products - OCOPEX.

Regarding brand development, especially national brands, it has also been promoted. Accordingly, at the 9th national brand product selection in 2024, 359 products of 190 enterprises were recognized as national brand products, an increase of 10.5% in the number of products and 10.5% in the number of enterprises compared to the 8th selection period. Thereby, it shows that Vietnamese enterprises are increasingly interested in brand development and increasingly improving the quality of Vietnamese products to participate more deeply in the global value chain.

Trade promotion to promote green economic development has been focused on and implemented through many activities such as: Green Economic Forum and Exhibition 2024 (GEFE 2024) with the theme "Creating a Green Future", Export Promotion Forum 2024 with the theme "Promoting green exports", Ceremony to announce products achieving national brands in 2024 with the theme "Strengthening the Green Era" ... to raise awareness and contribute to promoting green economic development, green transformation as well as contributing to promoting economic restructuring associated with growth model innovation, in order to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social equity towards the successful implementation of the Net Zero target by 2050.

In addition to the advantages, the Trade Promotion Department also pointed out the remaining difficulties affecting trade promotion activities such as the state budget resources allocated for trade promotion activities are still limited, the financial support mechanism for trade promotion activities has not been adjusted promptly by the competent authority (Ministry of Finance), leading to certain difficulties in implementation.

The organizational model of trade promotion agencies in localities across the country is not unified, causing difficulties for trade promotion agencies at both central and local levels in coordinating and linking to implement trade promotion activities, supporting businesses, associations, industries, etc.

According to Resolution No. 158/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly on the Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2025, the National Assembly sets the goal of 2025 as a year of acceleration, breakthrough, and reaching the finish line; continuing to prioritize promoting growth on the basis of maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances of the economy; striving to achieve the highest results for the goals and targets of the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan 2021 - 2025, in which the target of the growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) is about 6.5 - 7.0% and striving for about 7.0 - 7.5%; GDP per capita reaches about 4,900 USD;...

Accordingly, in order to promote the results of trade promotion activities achieved in 2024 and as a premise to improve trade promotion activities to ensure they are suitable for the requirements of tasks in the new context, Director of the Trade Promotion Agency Vu Ba Phu said that the Trade Promotion Agency will focus on implementing a number of key solutions and tasks in 2025 as follows:

Firstly, continue to study, thoroughly grasp and seriously and effectively implement the Party's policies, the National Assembly's Resolutions, the Government's and the Ministry of Industry and Trade's directions in innovating and improving the effectiveness of trade promotion work.

At the conference, representatives of associations and localities exchanged and shared information to promote the trade promotion network in the coming time.

Second, enhance export promotion, effectively exploit free trade agreements to diversify markets and supply chains; consolidate and expand market share in traditional markets; create breakthroughs in expanding new potential export markets.

Third, focus on promoting imports, diversifying import markets to ensure input supply for domestic production development and export. At the same time, promote effective investment in developing the industry and trade sector, support localities, industrial parks, and domestic enterprises to receive technology transfer, gradually master advanced science and technology, innovate, and proactively participate in sustainable international supply chains.

Fourth, strengthen consulting and provide updated information on the market, changes in trade policies, standards, regulations, and consumer tastes of import markets. Thereby, contributing to creating a proactive position and improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises when approaching international markets.

Fifth, continue to improve business capacity through training activities on trade promotion skills, application of information technology in trade promotion, green transformation, digital transformation, ecological design, circular economy; support businesses to develop green economic and circular economic products to effectively participate in the global value chain.

In 2024, the National Trade Promotion Program supported nearly 6,000 enterprises, cooperatives, and trade promotion organizations to participate and benefit; the total value of contracts signed directly at international trade events reached nearly 100 million USD; sales at regional fairs and exhibitions reached hundreds of billions of VND, attracting nearly 100,000 visitors and shoppers.
