According to Tuoi Tre Online, on the morning of February 5 (January 8), many people came to buy sugarcane on Le Quang Sung Street (near the intersection with Pham Dinh Ho Street, District 6) to prepare for the Jade Emperor's worship.
Thousands of sugarcanes are lined up by some vendors on the side of the road. Each pair of sugarcanes costs around 50,000 - 70,000 VND, buyers and sellers are happy, without haggling over the price.
Some people who come to the sugarcane "market" said that on the 9th of January, Chinese people in Ho Chi Minh City often worship the Jade Emperor, including a pair of sugarcane.
Mr. Phung Vinh (living in District 6) came to the above area to buy a pair of sugarcanes that he liked for 70,000 VND. He said that every year he buys a pair of sugarcanes to worship the Jade Emperor. The sugarcanes he chose have round, plump and tall stems. "Today is the 8th day of the month, I bought a pair of sugarcanes to worship the Jade Emperor to pray for a smooth business year, good health, and peace for my family," said Mr. Phung Vinh.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Van (a sugarcane seller on Le Quang Sung street) said that since the 7th, he has transferred from Cho Gao district (Tien Giang province) about 2 tons of sugarcane with yellow stems, retail price is about 50,000 - 70,000 VND/pair.
