Coach Van Sy Son does not support his students playing tough, and may severely discipline defender Nguyen Tang Tien - the person who committed the foul that caused Pham Tuan Hai to be hospitalized in the match where Quang Nam lost to Hanoi FC in round 13 of the V-League.

In the fourth minute of the second half of the match at Hang Day Stadium on the evening of March 8, Tang Tien kicked Tuan Hai's right leg with the sole of his shoe. The strong collision forced the Hanoi FC striker to leave the field on a stretcher and then be taken by ambulance to the hospital for examination.

Tang Tien initially received a yellow card. But after consulting VAR and reviewing the video, referee Nguyen Dinh Thai changed it to a direct red card for the Quang Nam defender.

Tang Tien received a red card for fouling Tuan Hai.

After the match, coach Van Sy Son said he would review the video to accurately assess the situation. "I always encourage players to play aggressively but within the rules," he said. "If any player intentionally tries to take down an opponent, I will severely punish him in front of the Vietnam Football Federation."

Mr. Son is a tough coach. In February, the coach from Nghe An disciplined young player Dinh Bac internally for violating club discipline. The Vietnamese national team striker was demoted to the youth team for training and has only returned to the first team since round 12.

Coach Daiki Iwamasa also reacted strongly in the Hanoi FC technical area after witnessing Tuan Hai being fouled. He said he always tries to protect his players and condemns dangerous fouls.

"The Vietnamese team could lose an important player like Tuan Hai due to injury. Today's situation is very dangerous, even though there are rules to limit it, it still happens," said Mr. Iwamasa, hoping that the players will completely eliminate situations like Tang Tien's.

This is the second time Tang Tien has committed a dangerous foul on a Hanoi FC player. In the 2018 V-League, Tang Tien, while playing for HAGL, also dangerously kicked Do Duy Manh in the knee and received a direct red card. After that, the Disciplinary Board of the Vietnam Football Federation increased the penalty to a five-match ban, while HAGL imposed an internal ban for the entire first leg.

After being taken to Xanh Pon hospital, near Hang Day stadium, for examination, Tuan Hai's condition seemed to be stable. Hanoi FC said he did not suffer any bone damage, but will undergo a full examination tomorrow before a final conclusion is made.

Coach Philippe Troussier was also present in the stands of this match, along with three assistants from the Vietnam team. After the match, he went down to the field to meet some players and ask about Tuan Hai's situation.

The striker born in 1998 is an important player in Vietnam's attack at the moment, especially in the context of preparing to play two matches with Indonesia on March 21 and March 26 in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup - Asia region. Before Tuan Hai, the team suffered many losses when Doan Van Hau did not recover from injury in time, Que Ngoc Hai and Nguyen Tuan Anh also left the possibility of playing open. Only Do Hung Dung reported good news when he recovered from injury and returned to training.
