Before the match between the Vietnamese women's team and Nepal in the first qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics, coach Mai Duc Chung was cautious and highly appreciated his opponent.
On the afternoon of April 4, a press conference was held in Nepal before the match between the Vietnamese women's team and Nepal in the first qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics. Evaluating the opponent, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed: "We have never played against Nepal but were very impressed with this team when watching their performance on video. The Nepalese women's team has made very rapid progress in Asia. We will have to pay close attention to this match."
Although they only had to face Nepal in the first qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics when other opponents withdrew, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed regret. The 73-year-old coach affirmed: “We are very sorry that this group previously had 4 teams but then 2 teams withdrew and there are only 2 teams left. We are looking forward to playing with other teams to prepare for the 2023 Women's World Cup finals. We did not come here to play around. We respect Nepal very much. We will try our best in the next 2 matches.”
Also at the press conference, striker Huynh Nhu expressed her determination to look forward to the match with host Nepal. Huynh Nhu expressed: “Although there is a difference in rankings, we respect all opponents. We watched the video of the match between Nepal and India. The Nepalese women's team has good technique and has improved a lot in recent years. Therefore, meeting Nepal will be a difficult match for us. However, we came here to win and will try our best to achieve our goal.”
Striker Huynh Nhu shared more about the process of playing at Lank FC (Portugal): “The experience of training and playing in Portugal is extremely beneficial for me. Portuguese players have good techniques and the pace of the game is fast, so it requires maximum concentration on the match. I will make the most of what I learned in Portugal for the two upcoming matches.”
According to plan, the Vietnamese women's team will play two matches with the Nepal women's team at 7:15 p.m. on April 5 and April 8.
