In Truong Dong commune, Hoa Thanh town, there are many effective agricultural economic development models such as raising snails, bamboo rats, civets... These models have helped farmers have high income, created jobs for rural workers, and are promising models for replication.

The civet farming model of Mr. Tran Van Huynh, residing in Truong Luu hamlet, brings a stable income to his family. After nearly 5 years of raising civets in cages, Mr. Huynh said that raising civets requires low investment costs, little care, stable output, and high economic efficiency.

Mr. Huynh shared that in 2019, he tested raising 9 civets bought from Dong Nai province, each litter of mother civets gave birth to 3-4 civets, some gave birth to 5-6 civets. Currently, Mr. Huynh's farm has 11 pairs of parent civets to develop the breed, but it is not enough to supply the breeds for people to order.

Through the process of raising minks, he researched to change the food for minks and design cages to best suit this breed of mink. According to Mr. Huynh, minks like to eat insects (ants, termites), birds, mice or reptiles (snakes, lizards) and some fruits (papaya, ripe bananas, etc.). Minks are wild animals, very easy to raise because they have good resistance, are rarely sick; do not require much care. His experience is to focus on care, apply the right techniques for cleaning cages and food to prevent diseases for minks.

Mr. Huynh said: “Currently, I only sell civet cats that are about 2 months old or older, with prices ranging from 8-10 million VND/pair depending on weight. Commercial civet cats (weighing 2.5 kg or more) are sold for 1.4 million VND - 1.5 million VND/kg).

Mr. Huynh's civet farming model ensures both legality (with a license from the relevant authority) and environmental hygiene around the farming area. In particular, Mr. Huynh is willing and enthusiastic to guide farming techniques for anyone who comes to buy civets to raise according to this model.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Truong Dong commune said: "The civet farming model is a new model in the commune. Compared to cattle farming, civet farming brings higher economic efficiency to farmers. Thereby, thanks to the support of the Social Policy Bank for lending capital to households, solving jobs in livestock farming and production, helping many households stabilize their economy and increase their income."

In the coming time, following the direction of the Provincial Farmers' Association, the Commune Farmers' Association will continue to develop new models suitable to the actual needs of the locality, as well as replicate effective models, contributing to increasing income and improving income for people in the commune. In the process of raising and producing livestock, if people encounter difficulties, the Association will coordinate with the Livestock, Cultivation and Plant Protection Station to promptly send staff to provide technical support in raising and producing livestock.

Tissue cultured orchids are carefully packaged by Ms. Tien for delivery to customers.

In Ninh Son ward, Tay Ninh city, there is a tissue culture orchid model, this is an economic development model that needs to be replicated.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tien, owner of a tissue culture orchid farm in Ninh Loc quarter, Ninh Son ward, Tay Ninh city, said that in order to have uniform seedlings and ensure quality by tissue culture method, the selection of mother plants for propagation, the time of selecting the culture sample, and taking it during the strongest growth stage of the mother plant are very important.

In the tissue culture area, Ms. Tien carefully lifted each glass bottle containing the seedlings. She introduced the process of propagating flowers using tissue culture fluently, no different from an agricultural engineer.

Ms. Tien said: “During the process of raising and breeding, I encountered some difficulties such as: how to overcome the loss rate when first starting to plant in the outside environment, diseases... Raising tissue culture orchids requires high technical requirements, in addition to my own experience, I also learned more experience from other orchid garden owners in and outside the province”.

Ms. Tien shared more about tissue culture techniques: “After taking tissue from a part of the tree that needs to be cultured, sterilize it and put it in a test tube containing a culture medium. This medium contains growth stimulants to regenerate parts such as buds or embryos…

After that, complete plants are created for cultivation and propagation. Each species has different living conditions, so when cultivating, it is necessary to find a specialized environment such as: temperature, light, nutrition... for each type of plant.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tien shared: “Based on my passion, I have implemented a tissue culture orchid model. With about 50 types of orchids, but currently, consumers still prefer the most popular types of orchids such as Ngoc Diem, Den Ro, and Dancer…

Every month, I wholesale and retail about 10-15 thousand orchids, customers are mainly in the Western and Northern provinces. This model brings a stable income for the family, with the selling price of more than 10 thousand/orchid depending on the type, after deducting all expenses, the income is more than 30 million VND/month".

According to Ms. Tien, seedlings produced by tissue culture have superior characteristics compared to traditional plant propagation methods. The seedlings are completely disease-free and inherit all the genes of the original tree without being crossbred.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ninh Son Ward said that the tissue culture orchid model is a new model of the locality. This is an effective model that needs to be replicated and developed in neighborhoods as well as other localities.

Ms. Tien’s tissue culture orchid products have a large market in neighboring provinces. In addition, Ms. Tien also does a good job in social security in the locality, supporting and giving gifts to members in difficult circumstances, creating jobs for 5-7 local workers with stable income.

In addition, to create conditions for people to produce new models, the Farmers' Association introduced Ms. Tien to a start-up loan of 200 million VND to invest in techniques for tissue culture orchid growing models.

For other models such as raising civets, bamboo rats, mountain snails, etc., the Farmers' Association continues to create conditions for model development, regularly organizes training, transfers science and technology, and raises and produces animals for higher efficiency.
