On March 10, Dr. Truong Huu Khanh, former Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Neurology, in charge of the Social Work Department, Children's Hospital 1 (HCMC), said that the hospital had just discovered a case of falsifying hospital documents to call for charity money.
On the evening of March 9, an account named HT posted a message on a local group with many participants, calling for "help for my children at this time". Accordingly, T. claimed to be from Krong Nang district (Dak Lak province), whose son had contracted meningococcal encephalitis and had been treated at Children's Hospital 1 for two months. However, due to the severity of his condition, the child did not survive.

The post calling for charity help was shared on social networks (Screenshot).
An account named T. said that the family is currently in financial difficulty and cannot manage money, so they hope the community will help cover the cost of bringing their child home for the funeral. After that, this person attached a phone number, a bank account number under the name "Hoang Quoc Trung", along with a picture of a child with a breathing tube in his mouth on a hospital bed.
Notably, the user of the above account also posted documents said to be from Children's Hospital 1, certifying that baby HQT had cancer and encephalitis, "after several ineffective emergency treatments, temperature and blood pressure were zero, the patient was diagnosed as dead". After being posted, the post received a number of shares from members of the group.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Dr. Khanh said that after discovering the above article, the hospital conducted a review and determined that there was no child patient named HQT being treated there. Therefore, the treatment certificate posted by the user above is also a fake. The subject even forged the signature and name of a doctor at another hospital on the paper to deceive people.
"Before now, we have been exploited by spreading fake news to call for charity money many times. But this is the first time that bad guys have even forged a treatment certificate with the hospital's stamp," said Dr. Khanh.

Previously on March 7, Children's Hospital 1 also issued a warning about a scam of " transferring money to a child in emergency care " over the phone. Two parents contacted to find their children because the impersonator said the child was seriously injured.
One child even had a relative who was a doctor working at the hospital. Fortunately, the parents were able to verify the scam information in time and did not transfer any money.

Children's Hospital 1 affirms that there is no such thing as requiring patients or their families to pay in advance before providing emergency care. The hospital always puts the patient's life first. In the case of poor patients or those in difficult circumstances, the hospital will consider exempting or reducing hospital fees from social assistance or charity funds.
Representatives of Children's Hospital 1 recommend that people can call the hotline (via phone number 0909.124.004) to verify whether the patient is being treated or hospitalized here, as well as to receive instructions on how to help and support the patient properly, to avoid becoming a victim of bad guys.
