(HNMO) - On June 5, the next competition day at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, Vietnamese athletes competed in swimming, weightlifting, athletics, judo, etc. The athletes competed hard to bring home 9 more gold medals.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation won 6 more gold medals and broke 5 records in swimming, specifically: Athlete Danh Hoa (disability class S4) won a double gold medal in the men's 200m freestyle (breaking the record with 3 minutes 26 seconds 63) and gold medal in the men's 50m breaststroke (breaking the record with 49 seconds 33).
In the men's 50m breaststroke event for the disabled SB5 category, with a record of 41 seconds 86, Do Thanh Hai continued to win the gold medal. Meanwhile, in the same swimming event, athlete Le Tien Dat won the silver medal. In addition, athlete Do Thanh Hai also competed in the men's 200m freestyle event for the disabled S6 category and brought home a bronze medal.
In the men's 100m backstroke event for the S7 disability category, athlete Nguyen Hoang Nha also set a new record at the ASEAN Para Games with a time of 1 minute 15 seconds 56, bringing home a gold medal for the national sports delegation. Vo Huynh Anh Khoa continued to have a successful competition day after entering the competition, winning another gold medal in the men's 100m backstroke event for the S8 disability category with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds 46. Athlete Vo Thanh Tung also won a gold medal in the men's 50m butterfly event for the S5 disability category and a bronze medal in the men's 100m backstroke event for the S5 disability category.
Athlete Nguyen Quang Vuong won a silver medal in the men's 50m breaststroke, disabled SB8 category, while athlete Hoang Thi My Le brought home a bronze medal in the women's 50m breaststroke, disabled SB8 category; athlete Ha Van Hiep won a silver medal in the men's 50m breaststroke, disabled SB3 category.
On the same day of competition, the Athletics team won 2 gold medals thanks to Nguyen Thi Hai (javelin throw) and Ngo Thi Lan Thanh (javelin throw).
In weightlifting, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan won the gold medal for her best lift of 98kg and her total weight after 3 attempts of 284kg - 126kg more than the runner-up. She successfully lifted all 3 registered weights, 91kg, 95kg and 98kg respectively. Notably, Tuyet Loan also successfully conquered the additional weight of 105kg to "break" the old record (104kg) set by herself at the congress.
As of 9:00 p.m. on June 5, the Vietnamese Paralympic Sports Delegation won 29 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 38 bronze medals, temporarily ranking third.
The Indonesian Paralympic delegation is still leading the overall medal tally with 58 gold medals, 48 silver medals and 31 bronze medals. The Thai delegation is in second place with 32 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 23 bronze medals.
