On the morning of August 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training coordinated with Tuoi Tre newspaper to organize a ceremony to celebrate and award the Le Quy Don Prize in the Children's - Red Scarf of Ho Chi Minh City publication for the 2024-2025 school year.
Born from concerns
The ceremony was attended by many students, parents, and teachers in Ho Chi Minh City and several provinces and cities with award-winning students.
In the hall, the eyes of the award-winning students sparkled with joy. They watched films about generations of Le Quy Don award-winning students who have now become successful doctors, engineers, and businessmen.
"I feel so happy to win the Le Quy Don award and I also want to be like the other winners of the Le Quy Don award today to be shown on the screen here" - Hoang Phuong, a student who won the Le Quy Don award in the 2023-2024 school year, shared.
In 1995, Le Quy Don Award was officially born in Ho Chi Minh City Children's Newspaper from the heartfelt concerns of the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and the editorial board of Khan Quang Do Newspaper.
Le Quy Don Award started from the idea of how to help children actively learn and acquire rich knowledge from life around them, not just learn theory from books, how to help children know how to have healthy entertainment, follow the good and right things introduced in the Youth Union newspaper.
The weekly newspaper test questions are open-ended, helping students practice observing life around them and applying the knowledge they have just learned to solve real-life situations.
That is why it is always attractive and brings a lot of inspiration to students. In the first year, the organizing committee received 17,000 entries, and in the second year, the number of entries skyrocketed to 70,000. Just like that, the Le Quy Don Award was developed and expanded.
By 1999, due to the large demand of secondary school students, the organizing committee expanded the contestants and organized the Le Quy Don Award in the Red Scarf newspaper.
"Learn while playing, play while learning"

Looking back on the 30-year journey, Mr. Nguyen Khac Cuong - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, head of the Le Quy Don Award organizing committee - commented: "If we were to use a keyword to decode the success of a playground with strong vitality like the Le Quy Don Award, we would see the words most clearly: creativity - dedication - progress".
The reason we say "creative" is because the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and Khan Quang Do newspaper have "created" a very effective form of "learning while playing, playing while learning".
The exam also updates current issues presented in a new and attractive format, helping students enthusiastically face weekly challenges in the newspaper with a spirit of conquest; the final exam format is diverse, without space limitations...
The "devotion" of an award that has lasted for 30 years is the silent dedication of a team of dedicated teachers who mark the exams, persevere and devote themselves to each exam...
The "progress" of this award comes not only from the way it is organized, but more importantly, the award contributes to the continuous progress of students' lives. After 30 years, thousands of students who won the award have now become successful engineers, doctors, and businessmen.
