The seminar was organized by Da Lat City People's Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper.
Delegates said that strong action is necessary because the counterfeiting of agricultural product origins has been going on for too long, causing great damage to the agricultural economy of Da Lat city in particular and Lam Dong province in general.
Counterfeiting of origin destroys consumer confidence and hinders the formation of globally commercial agricultural products.
Mr. Tran Huy Duong, owner of Langbiang Farm, said that in addition to potatoes and carrots, grapes, apples, pears, etc. are also counterfeited from the countries of import.
Mr. Duong believes that building a brand for farms and households is a good way to protect against counterfeiting of origin.
Farmers must have a QR Code and a growing area code. The code must be detailed for each production batch and must be certified by the management agency.
"In addition, in my opinion, there must be a secondary label with information about the place of production to avoid the situation of goods of unknown origin "cheating" into supermarkets. If there is a violation of control, it must be strictly handled" - Mr. Duong suggested.

Lawyer Tran Cao Dai Ky Quan - Vice President of Dong Nai Province Bar Association - agreed on the aspect of protecting Da Lat agricultural products through "soft" mechanisms. However, Mr. Quan said that sometimes it is necessary to be tougher in handling matters.
"The criminal handling of origin forgery as a deterrent is reasonable. However, the management agency of the Da Lat agricultural region, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, needs to announce the product quality of Da Lat agricultural products. The announcement will form a legal basis for handling according to current regulations," said lawyer Quan.
Dr. Duong Thai Trung - senior expert of the Domestic Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade - analyzed: This is an act of trading in counterfeit goods, counterfeit packaging, counterfeit origin of goods, depending on the nature and level of violation, will be subject to administrative or criminal sanctions.
According to Mr. Trung, if we handle this strictly and closely according to current regulations, we will reduce damage to consumers and the cost of managing the quality of agricultural products circulating on the market.
Mr. Pham S - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee - said that Lam Dong province will have a solution to identify Da Lat agricultural products using information technology applications in the near future. In fact, the province has ordered schools and research institutes to implement it from state funding.
Need a Dalat agricultural products trading center
Mr. Pham Van Cuong - Deputy Head of Lam Dong Province Market Management Department - acknowledged that after many years, the fake origin of potatoes has been pushed to the outskirts. In the long term, Da Lat should have a trading center for agricultural products originating from Da Lat. This center not only has the value of buying and selling, but more importantly, it promotes Da Lat agricultural products, helping people easily identify them.
