Recorded in localities today, the amount of arrival is low, buying and selling is slow. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap), the amount of arrival is sporadically, warehouse purchases are slow. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the amount is sporadically, rice of all kinds is stable.

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices today are stable compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 399 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 371 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 313 USD/ton.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in January 2025, Vietnam exported about 500,000 tons of rice, earning 308 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased slightly by 1%, but the value decreased by 10.4%. It is worth noting that since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's rice export price has dropped to the lowest in the world and has continued to decrease sharply until now.

The main reason for this price drop is that India has lifted its rice export restrictions after 2 years of temporary closure, increasing supply in the international market and creating downward pressure on prices in the market for other exporting countries, including Vietnam.

On the other hand, demand from Vietnam’s major import markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia is also slowing down. These two countries have accumulated enough rice reserves for 2024 and are now waiting for prices to fall further before considering additional imports.

According to agricultural experts, Vietnamese rice is currently facing fierce competition from other rice exporting countries such as India, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. To improve capacity as well as export value, the domestic rice production industry needs to organize production well, ensure rice quality; as well as product brand, maintain orders and maintain export markets.

At the same time, Vietnam needs to proactively diversify markets, increase rice exports to new markets such as Europe, the US, Japan, the Middle East, West Asia, Africa, etc. At the same time, take advantage of free trade agreements to enjoy tariff incentives and conquer and increase rice exports to new markets.
