Market assessment and impact of the epidemic
Nationwide, the price of live pigs today still fluctuates between localities. Traders are purchasing in the range of 59,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
According to experts, the year-end market often fluctuates strongly, causing the price of live pigs to continue to change. In addition, the high demand during the Lunar New Year will increase pressure on supply, leading to price fluctuations between regions.
At the 4th International Conference on African Swine Fever on November 26, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that the total pig herd in Vietnam has exceeded 30 million, ranking 6th in the world.
However, the livestock industry is still facing many difficulties, especially African swine fever. Since the outbreak in 2019, more than 6 million pigs have been culled in Vietnam. Since the beginning of this year, the country has recorded 1,538 outbreaks in 48 provinces, with 88,258 pigs culled.
To control the epidemic, Vietnam has successfully researched and produced two types of vaccines from NAVETCO and AVAC. To date, a total of 5.9 million doses of vaccine have been used, contributing to effective control of the epidemic in many localities such as Lang Son, Cao Bang and Bac Ninh.
