World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market fell sharply on both exchanges:
The online price of robusta coffee for May 2025 delivery on the London Metal Exchange stood at $5,337/ton, down 3.2% ($178/ton) from last week; the July 2025 contract also fell 2.7% ($150/ton), to $5,354/ton.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for May 2025 delivery decreased by 2.6% (10.2 US cents/pound) compared to last week, down to 379.95 US cents/pound; the July 2025 futures contract decreased by 2.3% (8.9 US cents/pound), down to 376.4 US cents/pound.
Robusta coffee prices hit a two-and-a-half month low, while arabica hit a one-month low, as forecast rains in Brazil eased drought concerns. Robusta inventories monitored by ICE rose to a seven-week high, adding to the downward pressure.
However, robusta supplies in Vietnam and Indonesia remain tight, traders said, with Vietnamese farmers holding back sales in anticipation of higher prices, while Indonesia is experiencing a supply shortage as it enters the final stages of its harvest.
A trader in a coffee growing region in Vietnam said that the supply of robusta is now mainly dependent on Vietnam. Those who do not need cash immediately will hold onto their stocks and wait for better prices, making it difficult to buy in the market. Although it is currently the dry season, irrigation water is still sufficient, not putting additional pressure on the crops.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Commodity Exchange, commented that this year's output of Brazilian Robusta Conilon coffee may be lower than expected due to unfavorable weather conditions with only one week left until the harvest. Therefore, domestic coffee prices are likely to remain high, around VND135,000/kg.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Sumatra robusta coffee for April delivery is currently priced at around $70-80, down slightly from last week ($100-110) due to increasingly scarce supply at the end of the season.
