689 candidates were absent from the public 10th grade entrance exam procedure session on the morning of June 9, according to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
The Department of Education and Training believes that the students may have been admitted to specialized universities or vocational schools. However, the Department said that if they show up tomorrow morning, they will still be supported with procedures to be in time for the Literature exam, which starts at 8am.
In previous years, Hanoi often recorded about 1,000 students dropping out of the 10th grade exam, even though they had previously registered.
In addition to the number of candidates who dropped out, the Department of Statistics had 9 candidates taking the exam in a private room due to right hand injuries and needed help with the test.

This year, Hanoi has more than 104,000 students taking the 10th grade entrance exam at public schools. Of these, 11,000 candidates registered for specialized schools. The city arranged more than 200 exam sites and about 21,000 officials, teachers, and employees to participate in invigilation and grading.
Hanoi's electricity sector has pledged not to cut off power, but to be proactive, all exam sites are required to prepare backup generators.
Tomorrow, students will take the Literature exam, and in the afternoon, they will take the Foreign Language exam. On the morning of June 11, students will take the Math exam, which is also the last subject. Literature and Math will take 120 minutes, Foreign Language will take 60 minutes. To be considered for admission, candidates must complete all exams, not violate regulations, and not receive a score of 0 in any exam. The admission score for non-specialized high schools is the sum of the Literature and Math scores multiplied by two, plus the Foreign Language score and priority.
Students applying to specialized schools will take an additional specialized subject test on June 12. The admission score is the sum of the three scores of Math, Literature, Foreign Language and the specialized subject score multiplied by a factor of two.
Hanoi's public 10th grade benchmark scores were announced on July 8-9, and candidates confirmed their enrollment online or in person. From July 18, schools that do not have enough enrollment quotas will begin additional enrollment.
