The story of Manh's passion and creativity conquered the VinUni Admissions Board more strongly than any academic transcript.

Innovation brings safety to the whole neighborhood

An interesting point about the neighborhood where Duong Tuan Manh lives that is unique to any other place is that the motorbikes are equipped with blind spot warning devices – equipment usually only found on cars and large vehicles.

This device is a support product, helping traffic participants detect movement from longer distances and emit light signals, thereby minimizing accidents. More interestingly, it is an invention with a “copyright stamp” of Duong Tuan Manh - an 11th grade student at that time.

This idea came from the fact that most traffic accidents involving motorbikes are due to the driver having limited vision and not being able to avoid a collision in time. With the guidance of his seniors, Tuan Manh spent many nights researching and learning about the range of vision of the human eye and the disadvantages of motorbike rearview mirrors.

After many tests, the product was completed with two warning lights placed at the top of the steering wheel and three sensors at the back of the car, which detect obstacles approaching the vehicle. The system can be used for more than a day before needing to be recharged. When an obstacle approaches the car, the signal lights will flash and warn the driver exactly where the obstacle is behind the car.

After many successful testing efforts on his mother's old motorbike, Duong Tuan Manh expanded the range to motorbikes of the aunts and uncles in the neighborhood. Manh's daily joy is to see his mother and everyone move more safely on the road with this device.

When passion for electrical equipment has "eaten" into the blood

Manh's passion for science and electricity was nurtured in him since he was a middle school student. Manh shared that because his family opened an electrical equipment company, every day, when talking to and observing his father's work, his curiosity and passion for electricity grew.

If his father is the one who nurtures his passion, for Manh, his mother is the one who creates the motivation and inspiration for him to achieve his goals. “ My mother always reminds me that life always requires clear plans and goals, even if it is just for a day or a week. That is why I have a habit of writing down things to do since I was a primary school student ,” Manh said.

In high school, Tuan Manh excellently won a full scholarship to the Academic Exchange Program on the topic of "Space Science" in the US in 2022. Through learning about engineering projects related to electronics and chatting with members of the STEM Club of the University of Alabama, Manh told himself: " Electricity, definitely Electricity and will not be any other industry ".

A country cannot develop without electricity. My goal is to become an engineer working in the national grid sector, contributing to improving people's quality of life and developing the country's economy ,” Manh confided.

Journey to win 100% VinUni scholarship

Possessing a "huge" CV, Duong Tuan Manh became an attractive face to many universities at home and abroad, but Manh decided to join VinUni.

Learning about Electrical Engineering, I see that there are differences in the approach to the subject abroad. Vietnamese people are not afraid of difficulties because the nature of the industry is hard, so I believe this will be a suitable environment.

Besides, VinUni also has a 3+2 program that I find very suitable for me because I have time to study in the country and time to study abroad to discover myself. The last two years are enough time for me, when I am mature and strong enough to walk on the road ahead ," Manh shared about his choice.

Sharing his interview experience to have a chance to win a scholarship, Tuan Manh said that candidates should not worry too much but should "be passionate and focused when talking about the passionate projects they want to achieve in the future". Because according to Manh's impression, the teachers at VinUni Admissions Council always find special points in each profile to create opportunities for candidates to share in the best way about their strengths and "personal qualities".

An answer with lots of emotion and message will definitely create a successful interview. Keep your mind as relaxed as possible, even though you will be nervous, always smile. Smiling creates connection and helps us feel more confident, you will definitely complete your interview well ,” Tuan Manh shared.
