Ecotourism potential
Developing community tourism and ecological experiences in Tan Ky district, in addition to the highlight of the thousand-year-old banyan tree, which is likened to a "chicken raspberry" on the hill of Giai Xuan commune, there are also community tourism products combined with ecology in Phay Thai Minh village and Chieng village of Tien Ky commune.
At these destinations, visitors will experience the image of Thai girls working hard on looms, weaving beautiful brocade products; admire the stilt houses with unique architecture. During their stay in the village, visitors can also enjoy special cuisines such as bamboo rice, boi soup, grilled fish, ... have the opportunity to immerse themselves in traditional festivals such as gong festival, thunder festival, bamboo dance, and drink extremely interesting wine.
Also in Tien Ky commune, there is Mo cave with its majestic beauty and ecosystem still preserved intact. Exploring this cave, visitors will admire the beauty of the strangely formed stalactites. Exploring Mo cave will be an interesting experience for those who love to conquer wild nature.
From Tien Ky, visitors travel a few more kilometers to reach Hong Son cave in Hong Son commune. In the middle of the vast green valley, Hong Son waterfall appears with its pristine, majestic beauty amidst the fresh nature, truly captivating...
Going down to Lat town - the central urban area of Tan Ky district, visitors can also visit Khe Xanh (located between Tan An and Nghia Phuc communes) with its poetic natural beauty, lush green trees, and long stretches of natural rocks...
Khe Xanh is also a destination associated with the historical relic of the temple of Duc Ong Le Manh - one of the 12 talented generals of King Mai Hac De. Local people also call this temple Khe Xanh Temple. Another special feature of Khe Xanh is that there are 2 sources of hot and cold water flowing all year round. Even in hot weather, Khe Xanh does not dry up. Therefore, this place also has another name, "fairy stream".
In addition, in Tan Ky area there are a number of other eco-tourism spots and especially the special National Monument of Km0 - Milestone.
The legendary Ho Chi Minh trail has been upgraded by the State to become an attractive stopover.
Traffic difficulties
Tan Ky district is favorable for development when the State invests in upgrading Ho Chi Minh road and National Highway 15A, especially currently opening the extended N5 road, shortening the travel time from Tan Ky to Vinh city from 90 minutes to 60 minutes. This is a very favorable condition for tourists from all over to Tan Ky. However, from Lat town to tourist destinations in the inner communes have not been invested in upgrading synchronously, making travel difficult.
In addition to the Tien Ky community tourism site, at the Bon waterfall tourist attraction, Hong Son hamlet (Tan Hop commune) has invested in building a road to the foot of the waterfall, a parking lot, and a stage; initially creating conditions for people to do essential business at the waterfall according to current regulations.
The district is calling on qualified businesses to invest in specific items to gradually complete the overall tourist destination. For the Thung Khien cave cluster tourist attraction in Van Son hamlet (Dong Van commune), the district has coordinated with the Tan Ky protective forest management board to manage and protect tourism resources; it is currently calling on investors to build accompanying services.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Hanh - Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Tan Ky district, said: Regarding Provincial Road 534B connecting from Lat town to Tien Ky commune, which is more than 20 km long, although the State has invested in upgrading most of its length, there are still about 4 km that have not been upgraded, making it difficult to travel during the rainy season. Currently, the district is making efforts to propose to all levels and sectors to upgrade the remaining 4 km to make it more convenient for people and tourists to visit tourist attractions in Tien Ky commune. Regarding the district road connecting from Tan An commune to Dong Van, the road surface has been degraded for many years, the province has approved the investment policy to upgrade it, and it is expected to start construction this year.
In particular, the thousand-year-old banyan tree embracing the rock in Giai Xuan commune is considered a natural bonsai masterpiece, however, it has been seemingly forgotten for many years. The reason is that there is no road to the banyan tree, so tourists are hesitant because to get there, they have to ride a motorbike about 2-3 km along the path used by locals to go to work, then walk about 600m of forest road.
According to research, it is an ancient tree, a bonsai tree with a very high age, a shape that meets the criteria of "ancient - technical - beautiful", "unique" because it grows on two rocks, the thousand-year-old Sanh tree hugging the rock in Giai Xuan commune has scientific, historical, cultural and spiritual value. The people here consider the Sanh tree as a symbol in spiritual life and preserve it as a treasure. In 2015, this Sanh tree with a unique shape was recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree that needs to be protected.
“In 2016, TH Group invested more than 1 billion VND to build a dike around the banyan tree and some other items. Since then, although the district has called on businesses to invest in roads and necessary items to attract tourists, no business has invested, causing this thousand-year-old banyan tree to be “forgotten” for a long time.”
