BBK - As a tour guide for Vietravel, participating in tours of the northern mountainous provinces, Mr. Cao Van Duc often visits Ba Be Lake and has a special affection for this place. Reporters from Bac Kan Newspaper had an interview with Mr. Duc about his feelings and how to exploit the potential for Ba Be tourism to "take off".

- Reporter: Working as a tour guide, having the opportunity to visit many famous landscapes and historical and cultural relics across the country, especially the midland and mountainous provinces in the North, how do you feel about the beauty of Ba Be Lake, Bac Kan?
- Tour guide Cao Van Duc: When I was a student, I read the poem "On Ba Be Lake" by Hoang Trung Thong and had a special affection for this place. In 2016, the first time I came to Ba Be Lake as a tour guide, I borrowed the author's poem and exclaimed:
“We must transcend the mundane world.
To the middle of the vague, the middle of the wonderful".
In summer, the air around the lake is cool, in autumn it is filled with mist. The value of Ba Be Lake lies not only in its geology, geomorphology, natural landscape, and the culture of the community, but also in its peace, wildness, and lyricism. Many tourists want to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and return to the clear, gentle sounds of the mountains, forests, and lakes. To me, Ba Be Lake is worthy of the name "green pearl" in the mountains and forests of Viet Bac.
- Reporter: Those are your own feelings, but what do tourists think about Ba Be Lake when you take them to visit?

- Tour guide Cao Van Duc: With its natural beauty and recognized values, Ba Be Lake of course always receives the sympathy of the majority of tourists when they first come to visit and relax. There are travelers who "imagined the scene" and improvised beautiful poems to express their love for Ba Be Lake. There is a guest in the South, near Ho Chi Minh City, who also has a beautiful, clear lake like Ba Be Lake, and his family visits every month.
- Reporter: As you said, Ba Be Lake is a "beautiful scene on earth", so do you often take tourists to Ba Be Lake?
- Tour guide Cao Van Duc: During 7 years of working as a tour guide, I have been to Ba Be Lake many times. But honestly, compared to other places such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Moc Chau (Son La), Dong Van (Ha Giang), Ban Gioc (Cao Bang), it is still modest. On average, I only return to Ba Be once every 2 months, while I visit the above places once a month. There are many reasons, including the company's arrangement and the needs of tourists.
- Reporter: So, in your opinion, what is the "bottleneck" that has prevented Ba Be Lake Tourist Area from really attracting tourists?
- Tour guide Cao Van Duc: To answer your question, I would like to tell you a story from 3 years ago. On the trip from Cao Bang to Hanoi, when arriving in Bac Kan, I suggested and the group agreed to visit Ba Be Lake. That day, we arrived at the tourist area at nearly 8:00 p.m. but could not find a restaurant or eatery, so the group had to eat instant noodles. The next day, we visited the lake and then returned to Hanoi because there were not many services to keep us there. When traveling, in addition to the purpose of sightseeing and experiencing, tourists also have the need for entertainment, recreation, and shopping, which are weak and lacking in Ba Be Lake Tourist Area. This explains why, although Ba Be Lake is beautiful, the number of returning tourists is not high.
- Reporter: So, in your opinion, what changes does Ba Be Lake Tourist Area need to make to be more attractive to tourists?

- Tour guide Cao Van Duc: Comparing tourist destinations is lame, but I always appreciate the potential and attractiveness of Ba Be Lake Tourist Area in Bac Kan. As I have shared, Ba Be Lake Tourist Area is weak in infrastructure and services, so it needs to invest heavily and systematically in dining, accommodation, entertainment and shopping areas. The quality of services must also be improved, along with the widespread promotion of the beauty of Ba Be Lake to domestic and foreign tourists. On the other hand, community tourism in Ba Be Lake area also needs to be promoted more, creating a highlight to attract visitors and experience.
