With an open space, a rich library and many diverse and useful activities, the Provincial Library has become an attractive destination for many young readers during the summer. Thereby, forming the habit and passion for reading for children, contributing to the development of reading culture in the community.

Present at the Provincial Library on a weekend, we saw the librarians busy helping readers look up and find literature books, life skills books, comics... that they love. In particular, the children's room on weekends is always more bustling with fun activities based on themes. In an area of about 200m2, designed in an open space, modern style, with about 40,000 books of genres such as comics, reference books, children can freely choose their favorite books and suitable locations to explore knowledge. After reading books, children will participate in fun activities based on themes.
Le Dieu Anh, a 5th grader (Thanh Hoa City) shared: "For the past 4 years, every summer I have been able to go to the library to read books, read stories, and do homework. In addition, every week we will participate in activities on different topics. The library staff will organize activities to learn knowledge, work in groups, and draw pictures for us to participate in. Students/teams who answer many questions correctly will be recognized and rewarded. This has made us read books more diligently to gain more knowledge and understanding."
Similarly, Nguyen Nhat Linh, a third grader (Thanh Hoa City) shared that when coming to the library, he not only reads books but also receives more knowledge through useful activities organized by the Provincial Library. The activities help him feel comfortable and happy during the summer while still practicing teamwork skills, participating in drawing and some other useful skills. In particular, he gets to know many friends who are passionate about reading and talk with them about the things he loves.
During his summer vacation with his grandmother, Nguyen Viet Thien Phu (Hanoi) was attracted by the space and activities at Thanh Hoa Provincial Library. Nguyen Viet Thien Phu said: "I often spend time going to the library to read books and study because the library has many good books that I love, the space is airy, I can comfortably read books and explore knowledge".
Not only is it an attractive destination for children, but for parents, bringing their children to the library to read books and participate in activities is also a safe choice. Ms. Tran Thanh Nga, Dong Tho ward said: “I feel very secure when I let my child go to the library to read books. The space is airy, quiet, full of light, many types of books suitable for children. Since going to the library, my child has reduced the time spent watching phones and iPads, and is more diligent in reading books. That's why every summer I take him to the library.”
Ms. Thieu Thi Nghia, Head of Reader Services Department, Provincial Library said: "In order to create a useful playground for children in the summer, the Provincial Library has increased the organization of children's activities. Every week, library staff will choose topics and organize folk games, creative corners: drawing, making handmade crafts; fun learning - fun reading activities: telling stories from books, reading books and writing feelings, reading books and answering questions; children have fun experiencing different professions. The activities have created excitement for children when coming to the library, contributing to arousing a passion for reading and training life skills for children".
Not only the children's room but also the reading room and borrowing room attract a large number of young readers. During the summer of this year, the Provincial Library regularly welcomes about 300 - 400 readers every day of the week. Since May, the children's room has served more than 36,850 readers; the reading room has served 27,900 readers. To achieve these results, the Provincial Library has paid attention to building a book warehouse, decorating the reading room in an open, child-friendly space, organizing technical processing, classifying books in the rooms to make searching and looking up books more convenient. At the same time, from the beginning of the year, the Provincial Library has proactively developed an activity plan, especially during the summer; increased the addition of new books and newspapers suitable for the age and level of each subject, especially children.
In parallel, each year the Provincial Library has added thousands of books to renew the book collection. In 2023, the library added and technically processed 14,560 books; added 172 newspapers and magazines; collected 263 copies of local documents. In addition, the Provincial Library has increased the mobilization of bookstores, companies, organizations and individuals to participate in building a book collection, contributing to building a rich, diverse and useful book collection. In addition, the Provincial Library has promoted propaganda, introduction, display of good books and summer activities to attract readers.
To better serve readers, the Provincial Library will continue to focus on innovating reader service activities; continue to add new book sources with diverse content; improve facilities, arrange regular staff to be on duty to welcome and support readers of all ages... With these innovations, the Provincial Library will become a trusted address for readers and parents during the summer.
