The cargo ship Nam Vy 39 - HP 3632, owned by Nam Vy Trading Company Limited (headquartered in Hai Phong City) had an accident in the waters of Thuan An, Thua Thien - Hue Province in early 2017, while transporting about 2,950 tons of coal dust from Quang Ninh to Da Nang. While crossing the waters, the cargo ship encountered an accident and then ran aground. All 8 crew members and the captain were rescued, but the cargo ship was stuck at sea.
After that, the coal cargo ship was washed ashore by waves in Hai Duong commune (Huong Tra town, Thua Thien-Hue). After the accident, the front part of the ship was broken and sank underwater.
At that time, the ship was identified as a dangerous obstacle in the sea area. The obstacle was located about 400m from the coast of Hai Duong commune (Thua Thien Hue province) and about 1.7 nautical miles northwest of Thuan An lighthouse. In recent times, watercraft operating in the Thua Thien Hue sea area have always been advised to pay attention to increase vigilance when passing through the area where the ship is stranded.
