During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the great rear base of Thanh Hoa mobilized the highest and most human and material resources to ensure logistics for the campaign to win. Thanh Hoa's mark on Dien Bien from war to peace has always been sharp and vice versa, Dien Bien has a special place in the heart of Thanh Hoa. During his second visit to Thanh Hoa in 1957, President Ho Chi Minh praised: "Now, wherever the Vietnamese language goes, the Dien Bien Phu language goes there; wherever the Dien Bien Phu language goes, the Thanh Hoa people also have a part of the honor."

Hoa ban, the cultural symbol of Dien Bien province, has long appeared on the roads and been planted in many agencies and businesses in Thanh Hoa province. Dien Bien people still pass down the legend of this flower. Legend has it that in the Northwest region, there was a girl named Ban who died on a cliff because she wanted to keep her love for her lover. Later, a tree that bloomed white flowers in the spring grew there. The people here named that flower Hoa ban. And also from this humanistic meaning, Hoa ban has become the cultural symbol of Dien Bien province.
And every February and March, the blooming of the Ban flowers makes Thanh Hoa people remember Dien Bien, proud of the Dien Bien Phu victory that "resounded throughout the five continents, shook the world" and remember that "Thanh Hoa had a part of the honor". During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Thanh Hoa mobilized 30% of the working-age population to join the frontline laborers, with a total of nearly 179,000 people, 27 million working days, along with tens of thousands of bicycles... transporting 50% of the food volume for the campaign. Besides, tens of thousands of young people joined the army, among them, many of them have remained forever in the land of Dien Bien. The affection and solidarity spirit have been closely linked by the people of Thanh Hoa and Dien Bien provinces since the war until now.
Wishing that the relationship between the two provinces will continue to develop like the blooming of Bauhinia flowers in the spring in modern times, in 2022, Dien Bien Dong district (Dien Bien province) presented Thanh Hoa city with 600 Bauhinia trees planted in Bo Ve park (Dong Ve ward). During the ceremony, the leaders of the two localities cherished the close relationship that Thanh Hoa and Dien Bien had before, and at the same time expressed their determination to further enhance the relationship, solidarity and cooperation between the two localities. All the trees are carefully cared for, and now bloom brilliantly every year in the spring, becoming a favorite photo spot for Thanh Hoa people in early spring, creating a unique mark of Dien Bien in the heart of Thanh Hoa.
Up to now, the image of Dien Bien Phu has been deeply engraved in the minds of Thanh Hoa people, not only in books and films but also through some roads and schools named after Dien Bien, Vo Nguyen Giap, To Vinh Dien... as well as in the traditional storytelling sessions with great enthusiasm of Dien Bien soldiers in the past to inspire the younger generation. Among them, Dien Bien ward is a special mark of the echo of the "Dien Bien spirit" of Thanh Hoa province. This is the only ward in the province named after a famous campaign of the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against France - the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Worthy of the name Dien Bien, in recent years the ward has overcome difficulties and made efforts to reap many commendable achievements in socio-economic development. In particular, the ward's economy has grown impressively, with a production value growth rate of 22.9%, total investment capital in the area reaching 30,000 billion VND, average income per capita reaching 155 million VND/year... Dien Bien is the first ward in the city with no more poor or near-poor households. Every year, the ward completes 100% of the targets according to the resolution of the Ward Party Executive Committee and the targets and tasks assigned by the city. Currently, in the ward, many large streets have been formed, bustling businesses such as: cultural and artistic services on Nguyen Du street, civil electricity on Hang Dong street, flower business on Trieu Quoc Dat street, banking and financial services on Phan Chu Trinh street, electronics on Truong Thi street... Services - trade have become the main pillars in the economic development of the ward. Besides that are achievements in culture and society. Dien Bien is one of the wards that is always in the top of the education quality of Thanh Hoa city and the whole province. The ward has 4 schools named Dien Bien, including: Dien Bien Kindergarten, Dien Bien 1 Primary School, Dien Bien 2 Primary School, Dien Bien Secondary School. Currently, all 4 schools have met national standards level 2 and are recognized as "model" units.
Comrade Le Thi Quynh Tho, Chairman of Dien Bien Ward People's Committee, said: "Promoting the revolutionary spirit, the "Dien Bien" spirit, the government and people in the ward are determined to realize the great goal: Building Dien Bien to become a Heroic Labor Unit in the renovation period before 2025, marking another important milestone in the construction and development journey of the ward".
In particular, Thanh Hoa people can always admire the images, historical evidence and legendary stories about Thanh Hoa's army and people in the Dien Bien Phu campaign at the Provincial Museum. The Thanh Hoa Artifacts Gallery in the construction and defense of the Fatherland in the period 1945-1975, displays many artifacts such as: a collection of certificates of merit, certificates of Thanh Hoa's civilian soldiers, a photo of Thanh Hoa soldiers on the march to surround Dien Bien Phu, a towel of Mr. Trinh Dinh Long (Dong Minh commune, Dong Son) used while participating in the Dien Bien Phu campaign... Among them, Mr. Trinh Ngoc's bicycle, a symbol of intelligence, creativity and determination to defeat the enemy of our army and people at that time. The rudimentary bicycle with a load capacity of 150 - 200kg/trip, even over 300kg/trip, was the main means of transporting thousands of tons of food, provisions, weapons, military equipment... to serve the victorious resistance war.
Besides, cultural and tourism exchange activities are jointly organized by the two provinces such as Dien Bien Tourism Week in Thanh Hoa... making the land and people of Dien Bien become closer in Thanh Hoa, and vice versa, the affection that Thanh Hoa people have for Dien Bien becomes closer and deeper.
Thus, the historical evidences, legendary stories, cultural symbols... of Dien Bien are always present in Thanh Hoa, reminding and associating with the victory "famous in five continents, shaking the earth". So that future generations can see that the country always remembers and respects the achievements of those who participated in the fight and served in the fight, always remembers and respects the sacrifice of the heroic martyrs who fell for independence and freedom.
