Faced with the situation of unrecognized religious organizations, groups, and new religious phenomena infiltrating the area, causing negative impacts on people's lives and security and order at the grassroots level, the province's functional branches have been focusing on fighting, handling, and eliminating "evil religions" and "strange religions", contributing to ensuring religious security in the area.

Live a good life and be virtuous

According to the Dak Lak Provincial Religious Committee, there are four main religions in the province: Catholicism, Buddhism, Protestantism and Cao Dai, with more than 616,000 followers, accounting for about 32% of the province's population, of which about 256,190 are ethnic minorities. Catholicism has 110 places of worship, with 217,026 followers; Protestantism has about 199,830 followers, of which 195,183 are ethnic minorities; Buddhism has 175 pagodas, monasteries, hermitages, and prayer halls, with about 193,490 followers; Cao Dai has nearly 6,000 followers living in 12 religious establishments.

Deputy Head of the Dak Lak Province Religious Affairs Committee Nguyen Van Tu said that with the close attention of the Party and State, many policies on socio-economic development for the Central Highlands, including Dak Lak province, have been issued.

Investing heavily in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas, paying attention to people's lives, especially their legitimate religious needs, not only helps ethnic minorities improve their material and spiritual lives but also helps them have correct perceptions and correct beliefs, not letting "evil religions" lure and entice them.

“The lives of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands in general and Dak Lak province in particular have gradually improved. The ethnic and religious communities in the province have always made important contributions to the construction and development of the socio-economy, ensuring national defense and security, and encouraging believers to live a good life, follow their religion, and build a new life,” Comrade Nguyen Van Tu affirmed.

Priest Vu Thanh Lich, Chairman of the Dak Lak Province Catholic Solidarity Committee, said: Catholics in the province have always received attention from Party committees, authorities, departments, branches, and organizations from the province to the grassroots, creating favorable conditions for investment in construction, repair, and renovation of places of worship. Therefore, up to now, religious facilities of parishes and religious communities have become more and more spacious and beautiful. The socio-economic development has improved the lives of Catholics, everyone is excited, assured to keep their religion and fulfill their civic responsibilities.

The position of Catholics has been constantly enhanced in the community of ethnic groups, together with other religions, always demonstrating the spirit of inter-religious solidarity and harmony. Catholics in the province always comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and actively participate in patriotic emulation movements launched by the Central and local governments.

Among Catholics, there are more and more examples of good people, good deeds, advanced and outstanding examples of economic development, helping each other to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, actively participating in charitable and humanitarian activities, contributing to repelling social evils, maintaining political stability and social order and safety in the area.

Pastor Y Tuan Mlo, Head of the Representative Board of the Southern Evangelical Church of Vietnam in Dak Lak province, affirmed that along with taking care of the material and spiritual life of the people, the State has a Law on Religion, respecting citizens' right to freedom of belief, and at the same time, creating favorable conditions for religions to operate in accordance with the law.

The Representative Board of the Southern Evangelical Church of Vietnam in Dak Lak province always requires pastors in charge of branches and Protestant groups in the province to propagate and mobilize believers to comply with the policies, guidelines and laws of the Party, the State, and local regulations, to live a good life and follow their religion, to strengthen the building of great national unity, to protect security and order, and to build a peaceful, prosperous and happy village life.

Fight to eliminate "evil religions" and "strange religions"

Dak Lak is a region with a particularly important strategic position in terms of economy, politics, national defense and security of the region and the whole country; it is home to 49 ethnic groups. Therefore, hostile forces often focus on sabotage with "peaceful evolution" activities, plotting to stir up separatist and autonomous thoughts, separating the Central Highlands from the great family of ethnic groups and the territorial sovereignty of Vietnam, and establishing an "independent Dega State".

Hostile forces always take advantage of ethnic and religious issues to attract and incite ethnic minorities to oppose the Party, the State and the regime. In addition, in recent years, in Dak Lak province, there have appeared a number of "strange religions" and "evil religions", including "strange religions" and forms associated with beliefs and religions that operate contrary to social ethical standards and national cultural traditions, causing division in the great national and religious solidarity bloc.

Through the work of grasping the situation of the functional sectors, Dak Lak province currently has 14 groups with more than 1,200 people participating in "evil cults" and "strange cults" such as: Ha Mon Religion, Ami Sara, Supreme Master Thanh Hai, Falun Gong, Church of God the Mother, Evangelical Church of Christ, Dieu Am Dharma Door, Spirituality, Thien Dao, Long Hoa Maitreya, Ba Co Do, Je Sua, and the organization "Dak Lak Protestant Vietnam".

The leaders of "evil cults" and "strange religions" have taken advantage of charity activities, environmental protection, political, cultural, religious events, art performances, meditation, vegetarianism, foreign language training, and taken advantage of and sought pressure from international organizations and foreign media; through telephones, social networks, conducting direct propaganda or through post to distribute documents.

Some "evil cults" focus on propaganda, attracting people with high positions and influence in society such as artists, teachers, officers... and hiding under the names of clubs, limited liability companies, social organizations to conceal their activities and deal with authorities.

Notably, some "evil cults" such as "Dao Ba Co Do", "Hoi Thanh Je Sua", "Amí Sara"... propagate superstition, cure spiritual diseases, causing harm to the health and life of believers; propagate that one does not need to work to have food, does not need to study to know how to read and write, when sick one does not need to go to the hospital for treatment, one only needs to go to practice and be "blessed" by the "cult leader" to pray and one will be cured...

Some "evil religions" practice "rituals" that go against the nation's customs and traditions, are anti-cultural, such as destroying ancestral altars, distorting history; attacking and defaming religions recognized by the State; inciting people to oppose the government, boycotting activities organized by local authorities, etc.

Through investigation, the authorities determined that most of the leaders of “evil religions” and “strange religions” had the intention of profiting from personal interests, causing resentment in the religious community. When discovered and handled, the subjects showed stubbornness, were uncooperative, even filed complaints, and accused the government of violating “human rights” and “freedom of belief and religion”…

Lieutenant Colonel Lu Thi Anh Dao, Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Security, Dak Lak Provincial Police, said: The Provincial Police have proactively advised the government and coordinated with local functional agencies to regularly organize launching sessions of the movement "All people protect national security" in ethnic minority and religious areas; coordinated with functional agencies to do a good job of building, training, and promoting the role of core forces, mobilizing and persuading local religious dignitaries and prestigious people to propagate and encourage followers not to believe in and not to follow "evil religions" and "strange religions"...

From the drastic solutions mentioned above, the functional branches of the province have contributed to raising awareness, sense of law compliance, and vigilance for the masses and believers against the intentions, tricks, propaganda activities, and enticing people to participate in beliefs and religions that violate security and order of subjects in "evil religions" and "strange religions".

The provincial authorities advise people to always be vigilant, not to believe or listen to those who entice them to participate in "evil religions", "strange religions", and religions that have not been permitted by the State. At the same time, they should actively denounce, coordinate with the authorities and police forces at all levels to fight, prevent, and eliminate "evil religions", "strange religions" as well as reactionary elements disguised as religions, contributing to protecting the peaceful life of villages.
