Green transition is the inevitable path

Referring to the story of air pollution (PM2.5 fine dust) at the launching ceremony of the campaign "Fierce Vietnamese Spirit - For a Green Future" organized by Vingroup Corporation on June 26, in Hanoi, Dr. Hoang Duong Tung, Chairman of the Vietnam Clean Air Network, emphasized that this is a hot issue in many cities across the country, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vingroup is determined to accelerate the development of electric vehicles, even though this is a difficult field, requires a lot of resources and is fiercely competitive.

"In Hanoi, there are years when the air quality index is at the bad and poor levels on more than 30% of days in a year. More worryingly, this trend is not decreasing but increasing," the expert expressed his concern and said that green transformation is the inevitable path that Vietnam must take; green transformation in production, in economic development, in all fields.

To realize green transformation, many experts assess that, in addition to strong policies for production facilities, the most notable are policies to reduce air pollution from vehicles.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang, Vice Chairman and General Director of Vingroup Corporation, In the context of air pollution becoming the biggest threat to human health and future, electric vehicles are considered by the world as one of the most effective solutions to reduce CO2 emissions for a greener, more sustainable future.

"That is the reason why Vingroup is determined to accelerate the development roadmap of electric vehicles and stick with this choice, even though this is one of the most difficult, resource-intensive and fiercely competitive fields.

Our desire is to build as soon as possible a solid foundation for a green Vietnam of the present and the future, while making a practical contribution to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 0 (Net Zero) by 2050, which the Government has strongly committed to with the international community," Mr. Quang emphasized.

Vingroup officially launched the campaign "Fierce Vietnamese Spirit - For a Green Future", calling on Vietnamese people to join hands for a better future.

Need cooperation from Government and people

According to Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of Vietnam Economic Institute, Vietnam has made strong green transition commitments to the world. The Net Zero target by 2050 is one of them. This is the time when Vietnam needs and must accelerate its green transition to achieve the target.

"Following Vingroup over the years, I have found that Vingroup's commitment to green transformation is truly serious, always demonstrated through concrete actions and results. The most obvious is the maximum allocation of resources and determination to strongly shift to the production and business of pure electric vehicles.

The program launched by Vingroup is another commitment with a broad community and strong action-motivating value. Through this, it is shown that green transformation cannot be just a single, isolated action of each business.

It requires the cooperation of the business community in all fields, of each citizen. Pioneering businesses need to be supported in all aspects, especially the spirit of cooperation of each citizen," Mr. Thien emphasized.

Focusing on in-depth analysis of the story of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, in an interview with Thanh Nien , economic expert Pham Chi Lan expressed her opinion that, in addition to the initiative of businesses, cooperation from the Government and people, especially the Government, is needed with specific and clear actions.

"Why doesn't the Government set a program that by a certain year, all public vehicles must use green cars and electric cars? There used to be a regulation from the Ministry of Finance that said which level can buy a car for how much money. Now, all public vehicle programs must have a clear transition roadmap by a certain year, definitely all public vehicles from the Government, Central and local levels, and public service units using the budget must use green cars," the female expert suggested.

The Government is determined to green the transport sector. In Decision No. 876/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister issued the Green Energy Conversion Program, reducing carbon and methane emissions in the transport sector.

The goal is that by 2040, Vietnam will gradually limit and eventually stop the production, assembly, and import of cars, motorbikes, and scooters using fossil fuels for domestic use.

By 2050, 100% of road motor vehicles, including personal vehicles, public transport vehicles, and specialized vehicles, will switch to using electricity and green energy.
