Ho Chi Minh City, November 2, 2024, Dong Thap province organized a meeting with partners in the Red-crowned Crane Conservation Project at Tram Chim National Park. This event marked an important step forward in the effort to conserve and develop the Red-crowned Crane flock, a rare bird species that needs to be preserved in the Vietnam Red Book and in the world.
Event Overview Representing Dong Thap province, Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong emphasized the importance of preserving the Red-crowned Crane not only for the lives of local people but also for the cultural and tourism development of the province. He shared: "Every season of the Cranes returning is a year full of luck and a common joy for many people."
CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company accompanies the Sarus Crane Conservation Project
In particular, in the program, Vietnam Joint Stock Company announced its decision to sponsor 1 million dollars for the Red-crowned Crane conservation project in Dong Thap for 5 years. The company's representative, Ms. Le Nhat Thuy, Senior Deputy General Director, said: "With the chance to know about the crane, the love for this beautiful animal has urged Vietnam Joint Stock Company to participate in the conservation of the Red-crowned Crane. With the philosophy of "3 benefits" when doing business in Vietnam, we always want to carry out activities that bring benefits to Vietnam. In addition, this activity not only has the meaning of promoting and improving the lives of people in Dong Thap province, but also helps strengthen the cooperation and relationship between the two countries. It is known that Buriram province, Thailand is a typical place for crane conservation and has successfully raised cranes, it can be said that "initially people raised cranes, later cranes will raise people. I hope that not only CP but also many businesses will join this project. So that in the future we can see this precious bird in our homeland Vietnam.” 
Ms. Le Nhat Thuy - Senior Deputy General Director spoke at the event that CP Vietnam Company is committed to implementing conservation activities not only focusing on Sarus Cranes but also expanding to projects supporting sustainable livelihoods for the community. Nature conservation experts also shared about the benefits of the Project, including creating a year-round resident crane flock at Tram Chim and restoring the wetland ecosystem. With many values brought from the conservation and development of Red-crowned Cranes at Tram Chim, the joint efforts of Vietnam Joint Stock Company in particular and agencies, units and international partners in general, the Red-crowned Crane Conservation Project promises to bring many practical values to Dong Thap province and the local community.
Information about the Sarus Crane Conservation Project
According to the official project approved by the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, within 10 years (2022 - 2032), 100 cranes will be raised and released, with at least 50 surviving. The cranes can reproduce, survive in the wild and can live year-round in Tram Chim National Park.
The total estimated cost of the project is nearly 185 billion VND. Of which, nearly 56 billion VND will be used to receive, raise, research reproduction and release the cranes; nearly 25 billion VND will be used to renovate and restore the ecosystem and habitat; 36 billion VND will be used to build a sustainable ecological agricultural production model; 17 billion VND will be used to carry out communication and propaganda work; and nearly 52 billion VND will be used to invest in infrastructure equipment.
