On the morning of October 27, the draw and schedule division ceremony for the 2023 National Futsal Cup took place at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). Eight teams including Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Son Bac, Savinest Khanh Hoa, Cao Bang, Tan Hiep Hung, Sahako, Luxury Ha Long and Hanoi will participate in this year's tournament.
According to the draw results, Group A includes the teams of Thai Son Nam Club, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa, Cao Bang and Tan Hiep Hung. Meanwhile, Group B will be the competition of 4 teams Sahako, Thai Son Bac, Luxury Ha Long and Hanoi.
Thai Son Nam Club is in a difficult group.
This is not an easy group for the current runner-up Thai Son Nam. Last season, Thai Son Nam Club reached the final, but surprisingly lost to Saigon Club (who later stopped operating due to lack of funds), showing that Vietnamese futsal is no longer a playground where Thai Son Nam excels. The opponents in the same group such as Savinest Khanh Hoa, Cao Bang and Tan Hiep Hung are all formidable.
The tournament rules stipulate that the 8 teams are divided into 2 groups of 4 teams each, playing a round robin to calculate points. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals. The two third-placed teams in each group will compete for 5th place, while the two bottom teams in each group will compete for 7th place.
The two semi-final winners will advance to the finals to compete for the championship. The two semi-final losers will compete for third place. The tournament will take place from November 9 to 18 at Lanh Binh Thang Stadium (HCMC). The opening ceremony will be held on November 11.
Speaking at the ceremony, VFF Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Minh Chau emphasized that the development of the National Futsal Cup in recent years has contributed significantly to the achievements of Vietnamese futsal in the international arena.
"Over the past 7 years, the tournament has brought many quality matches, creating attraction for fans, contributing to promoting the futsal movement in Vietnam. The clearest proof is that the Vietnamese futsal team participated in the World Cup twice," said Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau.
