CHAMPIONSHIP, DIFFICULT OR EASY?
After a period of ups and downs at the beginning of the season under coach Le Duc Tuan and acting coach Hoang Van Phuc, Hanoi FC once again had to call on foreign strategists. Mr. Makoto Teguramori was appointed with a short-term contract (initially lasting half a season), but the former coach of Japan U.23 still set an ambitious goal of returning to the championship race.
Hanoi Club (left) lost to HAGL in the first leg
Coach Teguramori's confidence comes from two reasons. First, Hanoi FC still has a good core of domestic players, along with a completely new foreign squad. In addition, while the capital team is an expert in accelerating in the second leg, championship rivals such as Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa or The Cong Viettel are also unstable and have not created a large gap with Hanoi FC's 4th place.
In other words, Hanoi FC's biggest rival is itself. Just need to find their true selves, Van Quyet and his teammates will rise up. The capital team needs a progressive coach like Mr. Teguramori to do that, when the policy of putting trust in "homegrown" coaches has failed.
One of the key matches that forced coach Le Duc Tuan to leave his position was the 0-1 defeat against HAGL in the first leg. That was not simply a defeat. Remember, for the past 12 years, Hanoi FC has won every time they met HAGL at Hang Day Stadium, even winning by a large margin (5-0 in V-League 2018). But in the most recent meeting, the team that won the V-League 6 times lost to a HAGL that actually had nothing outstanding in terms of personnel or playing style. Hanoi FC not only lost, but also lost the prestige and identity that had been painstakingly built up over nearly 20 years. The lack of experience was due to the inexperience of young general Le Duc Tuan, the decline of the squad when the key players were old, and the questionable direction (changing 10 coaches in 5 years) of the team's leadership.
Therefore, the fact that Coach Teguramori will meet HAGL in his debut match is like an arrangement of fate. It is difficult to expect a rise from a Japanese coach after only 2 or 3 days in charge, and the journey that Hanoi FC must take to return is still very long.
HAGL IS UNDETECTED AT HOME
The problem that Hanoi FC needs to solve in round 14 of the V-League is that HAGL has been unbeaten in 6 matches since the beginning of the tournament (won 2, drew 4) at Pleiku Stadium. HAGL did not play well against teams in the lower half of the rankings, but is playing well when facing stronger clubs. Coach Le Quang Trai's students won against Hanoi FC and Hanoi Police FC (both 1-0), drew with Nam Dinh and Thanh Hoa.
This result comes from the defensive counter-attacking style of play, playing tightly, pressing and organizing the ball quickly that Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh has trained his students since last season. With the current force, HAGL is not strong enough to play aggressively even when facing weaker teams, and the mountain town team can only rely on the opponent's playing style to exploit mistakes. The stronger the opponent, the more opportunity HAGL has to pursue their forte of counter-attacking play.
However, the necessary condition is that HAGL must have good endurance, meet the defense discipline and be tough enough to wait for the opportunity. The battle of wits between Mr. Vu Tien Thanh and his opponent Makoto Teguramori will be worth watching!
Viettel The Cong rose to the top of the table
In the make-up match of round 11 of V-League 2024 - 2025 that took place last night, February 19, Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) lost to The Cong Viettel Club with a score of 1-2 at My Dinh Stadium. This was a total defeat for CAHN when they only created a few clear opportunities throughout the match.
On the contrary, The Cong Viettel players had a very good match, continuously creating dangerous opportunities towards the opponent's goal. From a situation of surrounding the CAHN goal in the 20th minute, defender Truong Tien Anh joined the attack and fired a dangerous shot to open the score for The Cong Viettel. In the second half, the home team played defensive counter-attack and scored a goal to increase the score to 2-0 thanks to Amarildo in the 67th minute. The CAHN team tried to rise up and scored a goal to equalize 1-2 in the 83rd minute thanks to Alan. With this result, The Cong Viettel rose to the top of the table with 25 points, while CAHN Club remained in 7th place with 17 points.
In the match on the same day, Quang Nam Club excellently defeated Thanh Hoa with a score of 1-0 at Tam Ky Stadium. This was a rather special match as the coaches of both teams, Van Sy Son (Quang Nam) and Popov (Thanh Hoa), were not present on the coaching bench because they were banned from coaching due to their overreaction to the referee. With this victory, Quang Nam Club rose to 9th place with 15 points, while Thanh Hoa remained in 2nd place with 23 points.
