For the first time, Vietnam's processed coffee exports reached 1.18 billion USD in 2024, while coffee prices also set new records.
According to the report of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the coffee harvest has successfully ended in many localities. In early February 2025, Robusta coffee prices in the domestic market increased slightly compared to the end of January 2025. Coffee prices on February 10, 2025 increased by VND 200/kg compared to January 31, 2025, ranging from VND 128,000 - VND 129,000/kg.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, in January 2025, Vietnam exported 134,000 tons of coffee, worth approximately 729.0 million USD, up 5.0% in volume and 6.2% in value compared to December 2024, down 43.7% in volume and up 0.3% in value compared to January 2024.
Notably, Vietnam's coffee prices increased significantly. Accordingly, in January 2025, Vietnam's average coffee export price reached 5,440 USD/ton, up 1.1% compared to December 2024 and up 78.1% compared to January 2024.

This is contrary to the world market when in early February 2025, coffee prices on the world market fluctuated in opposite directions with Robusta coffee prices decreasing, while Arabica coffee prices increased sharply.
According to the Import-Export Department, Robusta coffee prices fell due to strong selling pressure from Vietnamese growers after the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, Arabica coffee prices rose to a record high as investors increased purchases, along with the increase in the Brazilian currency against the US dollar, supporting prices.
In 2025, the La Nina phenomenon is expected to replace El Nino, which could affect Brazil’s coffee growing regions. This increases the risk of frost, which could destroy coffee trees and severely impact expected production. In the 2025-2026 crop year, the country’s coffee production is forecast to fall to a three-year low.
On the London exchange, on February 10, 2025, Robusta coffee futures prices for March 2025 and May 2025 delivery decreased by 3.0% and 2.5% respectively compared to January 31, 2025, down to USD 5,561/ton and USD 5,564/ton.
On the New York Stock Exchange, on February 10, 2025, the price of Arabica coffee futures for delivery in March 2025 and May 2025 increased by 8.3% and 7.8% respectively compared to January 31, 2025, to 404.35 Uscent/lb; 396.7 Uscent/lb.
On Brazil's BMF exchange, on February 10, 2025, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in March 2025 and May 2025 increased by 10.4% and 9.9% respectively compared to January 31, 2025, to 505.25 US cents/lb and 500.0 US cents/lb.
A positive sign in Vietnam's coffee exports is the increasing proportion of processed coffee exports. According to the General Department of Customs, in 2024, Vietnam's processed coffee exports will reach 1.18 billion USD, up 35% compared to 2023, accounting for 21% of total coffee export turnover. This is the first time processed coffee exports have exceeded the 1 billion USD mark.
Vietnam’s processed coffee market is expanding, especially in the EU. According to Eurostat, processed coffee exports to the EU are expected to increase sharply in the 2015-2023 period, reaching 31,000 tonnes in 2023, nearly three times higher than in 2015.
However, processed coffee exports still face many challenges. Only 12% of exports to the EU are deeply processed coffee and the Vietnamese coffee brand is not widely recognized. Most of the branded coffee exports come from foreign enterprises, which import raw coffee from Vietnam for processing.
Therefore, branding Vietnamese processed coffee is necessary to increase value and expand the market.
