President Vo Van Thuong joins the Central Public Security Party Committee

The Politburo appointed President Vo Van Thuong to join the Central Public Security Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

On the morning of June 15, at the Central Public Security Party Committee conference for the first 6 months of 2023, Minister of Public Security To Lam announced the above decision of the Politburo. This is the first Central Public Security Party Committee conference thatPresident Vo Van Thuong attended.

The Party Charter stipulates that the Central Public Security Party Committee, appointed by the Politburo, includes a number of Central Committee members working in the People's Public Security; a number of Central Committee members working outside the Public Security; and a number of people working in the Central Public Security Party Committee. The Central Public Security Party Committee is led by the Central Executive Committee, usually the Politburo and the Secretariat.

The Central Public Security Party Committee studies and makes proposals for the Central Executive Committee to decide on issues of guidelines and policies, ensure political security, social order and safety, and lead all aspects of public security work.

Previously, on March 2, the National Assembly passed a resolution to elect Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, to hold the position of President for the 2021-2026 term.

Mr. Vo Van Thuong, 53 years old, from An Phuoc commune, Mang Thit district, Vinh Long province, was the youngest President when he took office. He was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee at the age of 36; a member of the Central Committee for three terms 11-13; a National Assembly delegate for three terms 12, 14, 15; and a member of the Politburo for two terms 12-13.

At the first meeting of the 12th Party Central Committee (January 2016), Mr. Thuong was elected to the Politburo, then assigned to join the Party Central Committee Secretariat and hold the position of Head of the Central Propaganda Department.

After 5 years as Head of the Central Propaganda Department, he was elected to the 13th Politburo, holding the position of Standing Secretary of the Secretariat since February 2021.
