From the beginning of 2023 to now, agricultural production in Cho Moi island district continues to affirm its position as a "support" of the economy. Farmers have converted 9,369.46 hectares of agricultural land to suitable economic models, such as: growing vegetables, fruit trees, mixed gardens... In the 2022 - 2023 winter-spring crop, the entire Cho Moi district has planted 20,302 hectares, reaching 101% of the plan, down 593 hectares over the same period. Of which, rice is 12,665 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan, down 670 hectares over the same period; average yield is 7.51 tons/ha.

Thanks to higher productivity and prices than the same period in 2022, farmers earned a profit of about 10 - 15 million VND/ha. 7,637ha of crops were planted, reaching 102.6% of the plan, an increase of 77ha over the same period, and the consumption market was quite stable. The area of ​​fruit trees continued to grow, reaching more than 8,010ha to date, including 6,415.46ha of mango (more than 6,280ha of mangoes of fruit-bearing age, accounting for 97.9%). Mango trees are starting to enter the season, with 1,365ha harvested, yielding 17,745 tons.

Livestock farming activities in Cho Moi district continue to develop, with a herd of more than 19,000 cows, more than 14,100 pigs, and nearly 394,300 poultry. Aquaculture is flourishing due to the stable price of pangasius at a high level (28,000 - 30,000 VND/kg). Most of the farming areas are linked with enterprises according to export standards and are raised in an intensive industrial manner. For other fish species, prices and domestic consumption markets are stable, and farmers make a profit, such as: Snakehead fish 40,000 - 42,000 VND/kg, red tilapia 38,000 - 40,000 VND/kg...

Strengthening promotion and advertising of OCOP products and local specialties

Industrial and handicraft production has a fairly high growth rate, with an estimated value of more than VND 4,000 billion in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 9.78% over the same period in 2022. The district has developed 26 new production and business establishments, creating jobs for 52 workers. Industrial promotion activities have received attention, with loans disbursed to 5 households, totaling VND 6.49 billion; and VND 300 million supported for 1 facility to invest in machinery.

In the field of basic construction, Cho Moi district has completed 25/82 projects, 41 projects are under construction, the rest are carrying out procedures, the disbursement progress in the first quarter reached over 60 billion VND, accounting for 12% of the total public investment capital in 2023. Trade and service activities are quite bustling, the district has newly developed 151 households, trade and service businesses, with an investment capital of nearly 21.4 billion VND; goods are abundant, meeting the needs of the people. Budget revenue is nearly 348.9 billion VND, reaching 35% of the estimate in 2023.

In the first 3 months of the year, Cho Moi welcomed more than 12,300 visitors to visit and tour religious and belief establishments in 3 communes of Cu Lao Gieng; nearly 6,700 visitors to My Luong Eco-tourism Area and Con En Eco-tourism Area.

Social security policies were well implemented, timely payments of subsidies to beneficiaries, amounting to nearly 39.6 billion VND; nearly 4,000 people found new jobs, 19 people exported labor. Cultural and social activities continued to be maintained stably, people's health care was ensured; political security, social order and safety were maintained. Hoa Binh commune was recognized by the province as meeting new rural standards.

In addition to the achieved results, Cho Moi district still has difficulties and limitations, such as: The "hot" growth of durian trees can potentially pose risks of oversupply and price drops during harvest. Traffic accidents, crimes of buying, selling, storing, illegally using drugs and property theft tend to increase, causing insecurity in society. Some specialized sectors and localities lack inspection and supervision, leading to the discovery of shortcomings after specialized inspection conclusions, especially in finance and construction work...

Chairman of Cho Moi District People's Committee Cu Minh Trong requested that in the second quarter of 2023, all sectors and levels focus on synchronously implementing the summer-autumn crop planting plan; preventing and combating natural disasters; developing a 2-year, 5-crop agricultural production plan; and issuing new codes for 1,000ha of planting areas in areas that meet the conditions for the district's key products.

In addition, continue to support businesses and farmers to participate in production chains linked to raw material areas to ensure output and improve the quality of agricultural products.

Cho Moi promotes trade and supports businesses; continues to promote and introduce OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program). The district adjusts the district's regional planning to submit to the province for approval; makes detailed plans for public lands to have exploitation plans and generate revenue for the budget. Strictly manages investment and construction work; speeds up the progress of key projects: Long Dien AB canal road, ring road 3 of Cu Lao Gieng commune, District Medical Center, new rural projects; does a good job of site clearance for construction of key projects and works.

At the same time, urge to speed up the progress of investment calling projects; strengthen inspection, supervision and management of construction licensing. The district well implements social security policies, vocational training; launches high-point campaigns to attack and suppress crimes and social evils...
