Many agricultural products of Long An province such as lemon, rice, dragon fruit... have geographical indications, growing area codes, organic certifications, VietGAP, GlobalGAP... not only famous domestically but are also being strongly developed in the markets of Asia, Europe, North America and expanding to the Middle East with stable output and prices.
In the past, lemon exports in Long An had to go through 5 large enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. These enterprises decided the export price, causing many disadvantages for lemon growers.
Therefore, Ben Luc Agricultural Service Cooperative, Long An has boldly expanded its market, connected to consumption in Asian and European countries and recently sent people to Dubai (United Arab Emirates - UAE) to learn about the demand for agricultural products and spices at wholesale markets in this country.
In early 2024, the transaction office of Ben Luc Agricultural Service Cooperative, Long An was established, located at Dubai wholesale market. Up to now, the Cooperative has directly traded and exported to Dubai wholesale market from 8 to 10 containers per month, each container containing 24 tons of lemons.
According to Mr. Tran Duy Thuan, Director of Ben Luc Agricultural Service Cooperative, agricultural products, mainly seedless lemons, are exported to Dubai, then to Oman, Qatar, etc. with stable output and prices.
Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Long An province, said that by 2025, lemon trees are identified as one of the four crops that will bring breakthroughs to the province's agricultural sector. Lemon farmers are gradually being trained in professional production to build raw material areas that not only serve the domestic market and China, but also demanding markets such as the EU, UK, Russia, New Zealand, the Netherlands and the Middle East...
Long An province has also repeatedly connected and sought support from overseas trade counselors and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to help facilitate agricultural trade activities in accordance with regulations. Accordingly, trade counselors committed to supporting Long An enterprises when opening representative offices abroad.
The provincial authorities will also continue to be a bridge for businesses to receive support and assistance from counselors, especially legal advice, as well as support for many other conditions to ensure operations comply with the laws of Vietnam and other countries.
Long An province has more than 11,300 hectares of lemons, of which more than 3,700 hectares are high-tech lemons and more than 664 hectares are GAP certified.
In Ben Luc district, there are 426 hectares of high-tech seedless lemon cultivation. Of these, 100 hectares are fully contracted for export to Middle Eastern and European countries.
