Some union cadres become a solid support for workers to confidently overcome difficulties and be active in production.
The fulcrum of the workers
As a part-time union official at a company, over the past years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tin, Chairwoman of the Union of Chien Wood Products Production Company Limited (Bien Hoa City) has strongly developed the union activities at the company. Ms. Tin herself skillfully negotiated with the company's leaders to bring practical benefits to union members and employees. Especially in the current difficult time of orders, Ms. Tin has accompanied the company to find solutions to maintain jobs and income for over 1,200 employees.
According to the Provincial Federation of Labor, in the coming time, Trade Unions at all levels will focus on training and improving knowledge and skills for grassroots trade union officials; promote training and professional sessions to equip grassroots trade union officials with knowledge and skills. |
Ms. Tin said that for union officials, it is important to always think about the interests of union members to carry out activities that are close to their wishes. In particular, it is necessary to increase understanding of the thoughts and aspirations of employees to build stable labor relations. With that in mind, no matter the circumstances, she still strives to take care of the best life for employees. Thanks to that, the company has fully implemented policies on salary, bonus, and other benefits for employees, creating motivation for employees to overcome difficulties and feel secure in sticking with the company.
Ms. Dang Thi Hoang Lan, Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Woalco Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa City) has participated in Trade Union activities since 2009. During that time working with employees, Ms. Lan has successfully negotiated many beneficial policies to improve the lives of employees, such as: annual health check-ups for female employees, provision of milking and storage rooms; support for employees with 2 million VND/year to study and improve knowledge; reward employees with long working experience. In addition, each year the company gives employees 1 week off to travel or return to their hometown to visit their families. The Trade Union and the company coordinate to organize sports and cultural activities and take good care of employees' children working at the company.
According to Ms. Lan, as a company with a large number of female workers, she always thinks about how to negotiate many policies for female workers. Among them, health check-ups and provision of rooms for expressing and storing milk are practical benefits that she successfully negotiated, helping female workers to breastfeed their children.
“When I successfully negotiated a policy that was beneficial to the workers, I was very excited because my role was promoted and met the expectations of the workers. I hope that the workers will always trust the Union and the company to work better and better,” Ms. Lan shared.
As one of the union officials with many years of experience in the profession, Chairman of the Union of Pousung Vietnam Co., Ltd. Le Nhat Truong said that in order to perform well the role of the Union, union officials must know how to choose the appropriate working methods for the actual situation, know how to develop plans and organize specific programs of activities. Along with that, they must create prestige with the enterprise to easily negotiate many policies that are beneficial to employees.
Improve the quality of union staff
According to the Provincial Federation of Labor, in recent years, the team of union cadres has strived to promote their roles and responsibilities in performing their tasks, achieving encouraging results through performing well the function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers.
Many union officials have boldly proposed reasonable policies and are ready to fight to protect workers. Thanks to that, many welfare policies higher than those prescribed by law have been fully implemented by enterprises through signing collective labor agreements. Specifically, such as: rewarding workers with many years of commitment, increasing attendance allowance, supporting childcare, housing, transportation and increasing meal allowance between shifts...
In particular, in the current difficult time of orders for enterprises, many union officials have negotiated with enterprises to find reasonable production plans to avoid cutting labor. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Chairman of the Union of Quadrille Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that up to now, enterprises have never thought of reducing labor force, even in the most difficult times, the Union and enterprises try to think of many ways to take care of employees. Among them, there is an effort to find many orders so that employees can ensure jobs and stabilize their lives.
From her own experience, Ms. Hoa emphasized that only if the union cadres are good and have a good grasp of labor laws can the rights of employees be guaranteed. At the same time, they must have negotiation skills, collective bargaining, working methods, and scientific activities. Negotiation is extremely important, and they must have the ability to convince so that the proposals and recommendations of employees are met by the enterprise.
“Trade union officials need to build trust with workers through activities and actions that are close to workers’ interests. Only then will workers trust and join the union,” Ms. Hoa shared.
Besides the dedicated union officials who are willing to sacrifice for the interests of workers, there are still some grassroots unions and union officials who are weak in their professional skills and do not have the skills to handle issues arising in labor relations. Therefore, the role of the union has not been promoted, the rights of workers have not been protected in a timely manner, especially the issue of enterprises owing wages, bonuses, and firing workers against regulations...
According to the provincial trade unions, the process of innovation and improvement of the quality of trade union activities requires the trade union cadres to constantly improve their capacity and qualifications in the new situation to meet the requirements of the tasks. The requirement for trade union cadres is to have a firm grasp of trade union knowledge and skills and to understand labor laws to protect the rights of workers.
