Since August 6, African swine fever has broken out in two communes in Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) with 58 infected pigs.
Authorities took samples of pigs of Ms. Tran Thi Binh (Na Trung village, Cam Thach commune) for testing.
On August 6, 19/38 pigs owned by Mrs. Tran Thi Binh (Na Trung village, Cam Thach commune) died of illness. Immediately after that, functional units and local authorities tested and confirmed that they had African swine fever. The locality destroyed the pigs and implemented disinfection measures using lime powder and chemicals.
Cam Thach Commune hired a machine to dig a hole to destroy pigs that died from African swine fever.
As of August 13, Cam Thach commune had 5 households/4 villages (including villages: Xuan Lau, Na Trung, My Thanh, Cam Dong) infected with African swine fever with 57 infected pigs.
The People's Committee of Cam Thach commune has used 500 kg of lime powder and 60 liters of disinfectant chemicals to disinfect households and villages where the epidemic has been recorded. Control has also been increased on the buying, selling and transporting of pigs in areas with the epidemic.
In Cam Duong commune, the epidemic appeared on August 10 at the household of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Trung Dong village with 1 infected sow (weight 379 kg).
Warning signs about African swine fever are placed in front of homes of households with confirmed cases of the disease.
Immediately after the outbreak of African swine fever in some households in Cam Thach and Cam Duong communes, the People's Committee of Cam Xuyen district directed the Center for Application of Science and Technology & Protection of Plants and Livestock of Cam Xuyen district and other localities to focus on disease prevention and control; inspect and control slaughter activities in the area. Local authorities also stepped up propaganda so that people strictly comply with regulations to ensure the effectiveness of African swine fever prevention and control.
