According to CNET , when iOS 18 was released, it brought a new feature that allows users to record videos while playing background music. However, this feature is receiving mixed reactions from users because of the 'disastrous' sound quality, especially on older iPhone models.
The feature of playing music while recording videos makes users uncomfortable
Previously, when iPhone users played music and turned on the camera to record a video, the music would automatically turn off. But with iOS 18, you can freely record videos while enjoying music. However, this comes with a major drawback: the sound quality in the video is severely degraded.

Tests on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro showed that the sound on the iPhone 16 Pro was distorted at high volumes, while on the iPhone 14 Pro it sounded distorted and felt like it was echoing from afar. The reason is believed to be because Apple uses an external speaker to play music and a built-in microphone to record, resulting in sound quality that is not as expected.
Many users have expressed disappointment with the feature, saying it doesn't live up to expectations. "The sound is so bad, it's unacceptable," commented one iPhone 14 Pro user.
Don’t worry, though, because Apple has made it possible to turn this feature off. If you don’t want to record videos with music, or aren’t satisfied with the sound quality, you can easily disable this feature in the camera settings.
How to turn off video recording with music:
- Go to the Settings app.
- Select Camera.
- Select Record Sound.
- Finally, turn off the 'Allow Audio Playback' option.
